COMMANDOS down the Wave and take Region lead
Friday, October 24, 2008

HHS got one of their most exciting wins in years Friday night over the Gallatin Green Wave 24-21.  #3 Spencer Armstrong scores winning TD with 1:35 left in game.  The win moves the COMMANDOS to the top spot in Region 5 with 1 game remaining.

HHS shuts the Green Wave out during the 1st half, and put up 17 points in the 2nd Quarter to go into halftime up 17-0.  Gallatin would fight back hard in the second half scoring 21 unanswered points to take the lead 21-17.  HHS would get ball back with 3:32 left on the clock and #15 Brandon Hall would lead the COMMANDOS on a 77 yard game winning drive.

Gallatin got the ball on the opening kickoff, and HHS would force a 3 and out helped by #20 Casey Stockwell and #26 Zack Hill defending passes.  The COMMANDOS would get 1 first down before being forced to punt themselves, and #35 Richie Reichenberger would pin the Green Wave inside their own 1 yardline with a 35 yard punt downed by Stockwell.  Gallatin would then get 1 first down of the own before being forced to punt from their own 16 yardline.  #47 Nick Yazzie would return the punt all the way to the endzone 47 yards, but the TD would be called back due to a block in the back giving HHS the ball at the Green Wave 21 yardline.  HHS would not take advantage of the field position, as they would fumble the ball to Gallatin on the 1st play giving Gallatin the ball at the 25 yardline.

Gallatin would be able to get 2 more first downs before #54 DJ Cull would pressure the Quarterback and #44 Andrew Hight would defend the pass on the 1st play of the 2nd Quarter forcing another punt.  Hendersonville would get a big run by #9 Austin Harris, and then Hall would connect with Yazzie for a 45 yard TD pass to give the COMMANDOS a 7-0 lead after the Reichenberger PAT.  On Gallatin’s next possession, Hill would come up with a defensive touchdown as he would intercept a tipped pass, and outrun everyone to the endzone making the score 14-0.  HHS would force another 3 and out on the next Green Wave possession.  HHS would then go 81 yards in 9 plays before having to settle for a 22 yard fieldgoal by Reichenberger making the score 17-0.  Gallatin would come close to scoring on their next possession, but #25 CJ Murrell came up with an interception in the endzone near the end of the half.  This would allow the COMMANDOS to take a knee, and go into the locker room up 17-0.

The COMMANDOS would get the ball to start the second half, but were forced to punt after 3 plays.  Gallatin would fumble on their 1st play of the half losing 7 yards, and then on the second play, a blown coverage by the COMMANDO DB’s would lead to a 65 yard TD pass cutting the lead to 17-7.  HHS got a drive going on their next series, but a sack would stall the drive and the COMMANDOS would punt.  It took Gallatin 8 plays before they would score on a 3 yard run making the score 17-14.

The COMMANDOS would give up another sack on their next possession ending the drive with another punt.  The Green Wave would then go 55 yards in 14 plays to score the go ahead touchdown.  Gallatin lined up for a fieldgoal on 4-6, but the COMMANDOS would jump offside making it 4-1.  Gallatin would then go for and get the 1st down, and then score their 3rd straight TD to take the lead 17-21 with 3:32 left on the clock.  Hall would then lead the offensive unit down the field 77 yards to regain the lead.  On the drive, Yazzie would come with 14 yard reception, then Armstrong rushed for 5 yards and the Green Wave would be called for a facemask penalty.  Harris would have a 16 yard run, and Hill would have an 11 yard reception.  Armstrong would get the call to go the final 4 yards to give the COMMANDOS the lead back 24-21 with 1:35 left on the clock.  Gallatin would be forced to go the air, and Yazzie, Hill, and Harris would all have pass break-ups.  Then, on 4th down, the defensive front, #88 Chad Pennington, #58 Kevin Stephens, #69 Cayman Russell, #80 Troy Dye, and #57 Joe Townsend would pressure the quarterback, and get just enough on him to trip him up in the backfield giving HHS the ball back.  It would take 2 plays of kneeling on the ball for the COMMANDOS to run out the clock and get the victory.

The COMMANDOS will play Hunters Lane next Thursday night at Hunters Lane.  Kickoff for the COMMANDOS versus Warriors game is scheduled for 7:00.
