HOMECOMING VICTORY
Friday, September 04, 2015

Hendersonville returned home for their homecoming game and was able to come away with a 17 point victory in the first Region game of 2015 over the Cane Ridge Ravens.  HHS would use a strong rushing attack led by #20 Terrell Carter’s 3 touchdown 186 yard performance along with solid play on defense and Special Teams to capture the victory at Memorial Stadium.

Cane Ridge would get the ball to start the game and the COMMANDO defense would force a 3 & out on their opening possession.  Pressure on the punt would force him to try to run, but #3 Anthony Hughes would stop the punter short of the 1st down to set Hendersonville up with the ball just 28 yards from the endzone for the COMMANDOS first offensive series.  HHS would be unable to get anything going against the Raven defense as HHS would not take advantage of the field position, coming away with no points after missing a 41 yard field goal.  #43 Luke Carver, #7 Weston Schwerdt, and Hughes would combine on a tackle for loss to start the next Raven possession before two HHS penalties would help the CRHS drive move into COMMANDO territory.  The defense would come with a big play as they would get the first turnover of the night with Schwerdt jumping on a backward pass to give HHS the ball back with the game still scoreless.  Hendersonville would get sacked on the first play following the turnover as they went 3 & out.  Cane Ridge would pick up one 1st down with a pass before being forced to punt the ball back to HHS.  Hendersonville would get their first 1st down on this drive near the end of the 1st quarter as #6 Brett Coker would convert a 3rd down with a 1 yard run.

#4 Mike Harris would put the first points on the board with a 39 yard TD run on the 2nd play of the 2nd quarter.  Harris’s touchdown would be the first points that Cane Ridge had given up so far this season.  #38 Jacob Harris would hit the PAT to give HHS a 7-0 lead.  After Jacob Harris’s kickoff, #81 Jordan Amis would get the 2nd turnover for HHS as he would recover a bad snap by the Ravens setting HHS up with the ball at the Raven 20 yard line.  The COMMANDOS would cash in on the turnover as #10 Jack Towe would take the first snap 20 yards to the endzone to make the score 14-0.  Hendersonville would force a 3 & out on the ensuing possession.  HHS would get one 1st down on this drive before punting.  #48 Thomas Roberts punt would pin the Ravens on their own 4 yard line with a nice punt, and the COMMANDO defense would get another 3 & out forcing the Ravens to punt from their own endzone.  The Cane Ridge punter would take off with ball and run out to near midfield putting the COMMANDOS back on defense.  The Ravens would take advantage of this extra possession to put points up on the board before halftime with a 20 yard TD pass three plays into the drive.  Carver would bust through to block the extra point making the score 14-6.  HHS would run two offensive plays before the teams went to the locker rooms for halftime.

Hughes would take the 2nd half kickoff and return it to the Raven 21 yard line.  Hendersonville would not be able to score here however as the Raven defense would stop HHS on 4th down at the 2 yard line.  Cane Ridge would pick up one 1st down before punting.  Following the punt, Hendersonville would have another one play scoring drive with Carter getting his first touchdown of the night on a 43 yard run to give HHS a 21-6 lead.  After the teams traded punts, #55 Emmitt Richardson would have a tackle for loss to start the Raven possession before a strip sack and fumble recovery by Towe gave HHS the ball in Cane Ridge territory again.  #75 Brandon Dove would help Towe on the big play.  Hendersonville would give the ball back three plays into their drive with a fumble of their own.  Following the COMMANDOS turnover, the Ravens would go 75 yards in 4 plays scoring on a 38 yard pass to cut into Hendersonville’s lead.  Schwerdt would get a stop on a 2 point try to make the score 21-12.  HHS would respond on offense after the Raven score as Carter would rush the ball twice cover 69 yards and finding the endzone on the second carry for his 2nd score that came on the last play of the 3rd quarter making the score 28-12 going into the 4th.

Kicker Jacob Harris would have to make the tackle on the kickoff to start the 4th quarter as CRHS started their drive at the HHS 30 yard line.  The Black & Gold defense would deny the Ravens this scoring opportunity as Carver would get a sack on the 1st play and #32 Carter Billingsley would intercept a pass on the 2nd play.  Hendersonville would give the ball right back to the Ravens with a fumble on their first offensive play.  This time, Cane Ridge would take advantage of their field position with a 19 yard TD pass.  Another 2 point try by the Ravens would be denied.  Towe would have a 48 yard rush to start the next COMMANDO drive, and 3 plays later Carter would score with a 31 yard run.  On the next offensive series for the Ravens, #21 Frankie Small would get a sack followed by #49 Miles Mitchell breaking up a 3rd down pass and #48 Parker Hogue getting a tackle on 4th down to give the COMMANDOS the ball.  Hughes would score on the 1st play of the COMMANDO drive with a 40 yard run to make the score 42-18.  Cane Ridge would drive the ball down the field but HHS would force a turnover on downs inside the 10 yard line.  The COMMANDOS would go three and out, and after the punt the Ravens would have the ball at the HHS 30 yard line.  Three plays into this drive, the Ravens would score the final points of the night with a 20 yard TD pass.  Hendersonville would turn the ball over on downs after getting one 1st down on the next series and the Ravens would run one more offensive play as the clock ran out with HHS getting the Region win.

Hendersonville (3-0) will play at home again next Friday in another Region contest against Beech (2-1).  The game will kickoff in Memorial Stadium at 7:00.

The JV team will be off on Monday as it is Labor Day and there is no school.  The JV will return to action on September 14 at Beech.  The Freshman team won again this week by defeating Siegel at home 43-12.  The Freshman (2-1) will travel to Beech on Thursday with the game set to begin at 6:30.
