COMMANDOS 4-0 AFTER BEATING BEECH
Friday, September 11, 2015

The COMMANDOS improved to 4-0 with their 14 victory over cross town rival Beech.  HHS would never trail in the 30-16 win at Memorial Stadium as they would jump out to a 13-0 lead in the 1st quarter before the Buccaneers fought back to tie the game.  A field goal near the end of the 1st half would break a 13 all tie.  Hendersonville would limit the Buccaneers to less than 100 yards and just 3 points in the 2nd half on their way to getting their 2nd Region win of the 2015 season.

HHS would get the ball to begin the game and they would look sharp on offense going on a 9 play 65 yard scoring drive.  #15 John Michael Oehlschlaeger would cross the goaline on a 1 yard run for the first score of the night.  On the drive, #20 Terrell Carter and #4 Mike Harris would have good runs while Oehlschlaeger would connect with #81 Jordan Amis on a pass completion as the COMMANDOS moved down the field.  #38 Jacob Harris would add the extra point to make the score 7-0.  #10 Jack Towe would get a tackle for loss on the first defensive play of the game for HHS, and #55 Emmitt Richardson would add a tackle for loss on 3rd down as the Black & Gold forced Beech to punt after 3 snaps on their first series.  A nice punt return by #13 Dyilin Hoosier would be negated by penalty, but HHS would score on the first play of their series as Carter would go 73 yards on a run.  The PAT would be no good making the score 13-0.  Beech would respond on the ensuing drive as an 8 yard TD pass would cap a 9 play 74 yard drive.  #43 Luke Carver would block the extra point to make the score 13-6.  Towe would return the kickoff past midfield to set HHS up with good field position.  Mike Harris would have a 1st down catch to start this drive before he would run for another 1st down as the 1st quarter came to close.

Inside Beech territory, Hendersonville would be unable to get any points here as after four more plays, the COMMANDOS would turn the ball over on downs.  The Buccaneers would connect on a pass to get the ball to midfield, then score with a 45 yard TD run on 3rd down.  This would tie the game at 13.  Hendersonville’s next drive would look promising as Towe and Harris would have 1st down runs before the drive stalled out with HHS calling on #48 Thomas Roberts to punt.  Roberts punt would pin Beech inside their own 10 yard line.  The COMMANDO defense would force a 3 & out on this series, and HHS would go 3 & out as well.  Following the punts, the Buccaneers would get a drive started with a 1st down pass play.  #3 Anthony Hughes would force a fumble that #21 Frankie Small would pick up and return to the BHS 29 yard line giving the COMMANDOS possession.  Hendersonville would return the ball back to Beech however as HHS would throw an interception on 3rd down.  #61 Alex Tate would hustle on the interception return and force a Buccaneer fumble that #77 Joe Phillips would be there to recover giving HHS the ball back around midfield.  Towe would get a 1st down run to start this drive before #6 Brett Coker found Carter on 4th down with a pass to get Hendersonville in field goal range.  Jacob Harris would come out and connect on a 41 yard field goal with 4 seconds left before halftime to give HHS a 3 point lead.  The clock would run out on the kickoff sending the teams into the locker room with Hendersonville leading 16-13.

After kicking off to start the 2nd half, #7 Weston Schwerdt would have a tackle for loss on the 1st play to help HHS get Beech into a 4th down situation.  The COMMANDOS would jump offside giving Beech a 1st down and allowing their drive to continue.  On the next play following the penalty, Richardson come out a pile with the football after BHS fumbled on a bad handoff for the turnover.  HHS would take advantage of the fumble as Carter would get a 1st down run to start drive and Towe would end it with a 32 yard touchdown run putting the COMMANDOS up 10 points.  Beech would look to answer the score on their next drive as they moved down the field converting on two 3rd downs and one 4th down before #32 Carter Billingsley would get an interception in the endzone to keep Beech off the scoreboard and give the COMMANDOS the ball back.  Hendersonville would go three and out following this turnover, but a penalty against Beech on the punt would allow HHS to retain possession of the ball.  Hendersonville would now get moving on offense as Carter would catch a pass from Coker after Mike Harris had a tough run.  Inside Beech territory, Coker would find #84 Hayden Frentz for a completion on the final play of the 3rd quarter.

Hughes would have a 1st down run to start the 4th quarter, then a reception by Carter would get the ball to the 11 yard line.  The Buccaneers would hold strong forcing a 4th down, but Hendersonville would not be denied the endzone as Mike Harris would score with a 6 yard run on the 4th down.  The drive covered 68 yard and went 14 plays after the penalty.  Jacob Harris’s PAT would make the score 30-13.  Richardson would recover his second fumble of the night on the next series for Beech giving HHS the ball inside Buccaneer territory, but Hendersonville would fumble the ball right back on the 1st play of their drive.  The defense would return to the field and force a Buccaneer punt after 3 plays.  The COMMANDOS would again turn the ball over on the 1st play of this drive with another fumble.  This time Beech would start their drive at the HHS 13 yard line.  Carver would make a stop at the 2 yard line before he would get a sack as Hendersonville would hold the Buccaneers to a field goal following the turnover.  Carter would recover the onside kick by Beech, and after Small ran for a 1st down, Hendersonville would be able to kneel on the ball to run the clock out.

Hendersonville (4-0) will travel to Hillsboro (2-2) next Friday night.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 in the Region 6 contest, and the game will be broadcast live on TV as the MyTV30 ‘Friday Night Rivals’ game of the week.

The JV team will be return to action on Monday as they travel to Beech with a start time set for 5:30.  The Freshman team got their 3rd straight victory on Thursday by defeating Beech 35-8.  The Freshman, now 3-1, will travel to Smyrna next Thursday with kickoff set for 6:30.
