HENDERSONVILLE FINISHES 9-1
Friday, October 30, 2015

The COMMANDOS finished the 2015 season with a 9-1 record after defeating Hunters Lane 45-8 at Memorial Stadium.  For the 2nd consecutive week, HHS would score on their first offensive play.  All of Hendersonville’s points would come in the 1st half as HHS raced out to a 45-0 lead at the break.  The teams would battle in the 2nd half with the only points being scored by the Warriors.

Hendersonville would kickoff to begin the game, and after forcing a quick 3 & out, #3 Anthony Hughes would block the Warriors punt for the first big play of the night.  The blocked punt would be recovered by #9 Clay Richard setting HHS with their first possession at the HLHS 12 yard line.  On Hendersonville’s first offensive play, #6 Brett Coker would find #20 Terrell Carter for a 12 yard touchdown pass.  #38 Jacob Harris would connect on the PAT to give HHS a 7-0 lead.  The Black & Gold defense would again force Hunters Lane to punt after 3 snaps.  On this series for the COMMANDOS, #4 Mike Harris got the drive started with a nice run before Carter would bust a run to set up 1st and goal.  Carter would eventually score his 2nd touchdown of the night with a 3 yard run.  Hughes would come up big on the next HLHS possession as he would get a tackle for loss to put the Warriors in a long yardage situation.  On 3rd down, #18 Austin White would get an interception to give HHS the ball back.  #10 Jack Towe and Carter would pick up 1st down runs as Hendersonville moved the ball down the field following the turnover, but the drive would stall and HHS would call on Jacob Harris who would connect on a 22 yard field goal making the score 17-0.  On the 3rd play of the ensuing Warrior possession, Towe would get an interception and return it 37 yards to the endzone putting HHS up 24-0.  Hunters Lane would gain a couple of 1st downs as time ran down in the 1st quarter.

#22 Caleb Thorton would combine with #36 Mike King on a tackle for loss on the 1st play of the 2nd quarter helping end the Warriors drive as they would punt.  After picking up a 1st down, HHS would give the ball back to HLHS by throwing an interception.  Hughes would come up with another tackle for loss on the 1st play following the interception, and then #54 Daly Cull would get a tackle for loss on 3rd down to force another punt.  Following the punt, Hughes found the endzone with a 36 yard TD run on the 1st play of the drive.  After good kickoff coverage, the COMMANDO defense would force the Warriors into a punting situation, and after getting pressure forced the punter to run the ball, Hendersonville would have the ball 1st & goal from the 10 yard line.  #21 Frankie Small would score with a 10 yard run.  After HLHS punted to HHS, the COMMANDOS would find the endzone one more time as Carter would make a catch from Coker and go 13 yards into the endzone for the final points of the night for the Hendersonville.  The first half would end on the next Hunters Lane possession with HHS leading 45-0.

Hendersonville would get the ball to start the 2nd half, and after an incompletion, #13 Dyilin Hoosier would pick a first down on the ground.  Back to back 1st down runs by #25 Eric Tilson would move the ball inside Warrior territory.  Hunters Lane would get the touchdown on this drive as they picked up an HHS fumble and returned it 52 yards for the score.  After converting the 2 point conversion, the score would be 45-8.  On the next drive, Richard would convert a 3rd down and Hoosier would gain another 1st down with a run.

To start the 4th quarter, #14 Caleb Waters would make a reception on a pass from Richard and run for a 1st down.   The COMMANODS, however, would fumble on the next play.  Hunters Lane would punt after 3 snaps, and HHS would return the punt after #30 Griffin McAuley gained a first down with a run.  #2 Gabe Dalton would get an interception on the next Warrior drive allowing Hendersonville to run out the clock.

Hendersonville (9-1) has qualified for the class 5A playoff and will be the #2 seed from Region 6.  The top 4 teams in Region 6 (1-Hillsboro, 2-HHS, 3-Beech, 4-Cane Ridge) will take on the top 4 teams from Region 5 (1-Independence, 2-Lincoln County, 3-Shelbyville, 4-LaVergne) meaning that the COMMANDOS will host the Shelbyville Golden Eagles (7-3) in the first round.  The game will start at 7:00 next Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
