HHS MOVES TO 2ND ROUND
Friday, November 06, 2015

After the start time of the game was delayed for over an hour due to a power failure at Memorial Stadium, HHS was able to beat Shelbyville by a score 43-20 to move on to the 2nd round of the TSSAA class 5A playoffs.  Hendersonville would use a defensive score to go into halftime up 14-0.  The COMMANDOS would continue to play well throughout the 2nd half to help earn the 23 point win.

#38 Jacob Harris would start the game as he would kickoff for the COMMANDOS just after 8:00.  The HHS defense would be ready forcing Shelbyville to punt after three plays.  However, Hendersonville would also start slow, returning the punt after their first three plays.  #61 Alex Tate would combine with #3 Anthony Hughes to get a tackle for loss on the 1st play of this SCHS drive.  The Golden Eagles would pick up a first down before #21 Frankie Small would force a fumble that Hughes would pick up and return 42 yards for the first score of the night.  Jacob Harris would add the extra point to give the COMMANDOS a 7-0 lead.  Shelbyville would gain another first down on the ensuing possession, but #7 Weston Schwerdt would get a big tackle for loss helping end the drive as SCHS would be forced to punt.  #10 Jack Towe would have a good 1st down run on the next COMMANDO possession, then #20 Terrell Carter picked up a first down with a reception from #6 Brett Coker.  #4 Mike Harris would end the drive as he found the endzone with a 29 yard run that put HHS up 14-0.

Shelbyville’s next possession would go into the 2nd quarter, but would only last three plays as HHS forced a punt.  An 85 yard punt return by Carter would be called back due to penalty.  Hughes and Towe would each gain first downs moving the ball past midfield before Hendersonville would punt.  A first down run would start the next Golden Eagle drive followed up with a 1st down pass, but the Black & Gold defense would step up and eventually force a turnover on downs with a 4th down stop.  Coker would hook up with Carter again on the first play of this drive and he would run the ball deep inside Eagle territory.  Carter would gain another first down, but HHS would be unable to score on this drive as they would turn the ball over on downs.  Shelbyville would pick up a couple of first downs before time would run out in the first half.

Hendersonville would be receiving the ball to start the 2nd half.  The COMMANDOS would be able to recover an onside attempt by the Golden Eagles.  Harris would have a first down run followed up by a first down reception by Hughes before Coker found Towe in the endzone for the COMMANDO TD.  #11 Caleb Head would find #43 Luke Carver for a two point conversion that made the score 22-0.  Shelbyville would respond putting together their best drive of the night going 70 yards converting on two 4th downs as well as two 3rd downs before scoring with a 1 yard run to cut into the Hendersonville lead.  Towe would return the ensuing kickoff to the Golden Eagle 30 yard line.  Mike Harris would waste no time pushing the COMMANDO lead back out to 22 points with a 30 yard TD run on the 1st play of this series.  #54 Daly Cull would get a sack on the next SCHS possession which would help force a 3 & out.  After a first down run by Hughes, the COMMANDOS would turn the ball over with a fumble that went into the endzone on their next possession.  The Golden Eagles gained one 1st down as the 3rd quarter came to a close.

The Golden Eagles would find the endzone to start the 4th quarter as they would score with a 75 yard TD pass.  HHS would recover another onside attempt.  On this drive, Towe would get things moving with a good run, and he would eventually end the drive with a touchdown run making the score 36-14.  On the next SCHS possession, Small and #81 Jordan Amis would get a sack, but the Golden Eagles would get the ball moving and after a couple of completed pass they would have the ball 1st & goal.  Carver would come up big for the COMMANDOS as he would intercept a pass in the endzone to give HHS the ball back.  Small, Hughes, and Carter would move the ball down the field before Hughes scored with a 17 yard run to end the 80 yard drive.  Shelbyville would end the scoring on their next drive as they would move the ball down the field and score with a 4 yard run, after missing the PAT, the score would be 43-20.  #29 Jacob Eicher would have a big run on the next COMMANDO possession, but HHS would have to punt.  HHS would force the Golden Eagles to turn the ball over on downs which would give Hendersonville the opportunity to kneel on the ball and get the 23 point 1st round victory.

Hendersonville (10-1) will get to move on to the 2nd round, but will have to travel next week.  The COMMANDOS will got to Thompson Station to take on the undefeated Independence Eagles (11-0), who is the top ranked 5A team in the state.  Independence defeated Cane Ridge 49-7 in the 1st round.  The game next Friday is scheduled to kickoff at 7:00.
