HHS LOSES 2ND STRAIGHT BY ONE POINT
Friday, September 09, 2016

Hendersonville dropped their 2nd straight game by one point with a 23-24 loss at Beech.  The loss puts the COMMANDOS in a 0-2 hole in Region play and makes their overall record 2-2 so far this season.  Hendersonville led by 13 points in the 4th quarter, but after giving up 14 points, the last with just 1:38 left in the game, Hendersonville would be down by 1 point.  The COMMANDOS would not give up, and they would get a chance at a game winning field goal on the final play, but the 45 yard attempt would be no good.

Hendersonville would not look good to start the game as after receiving the opening kickoff, Beech would rip off three first downs by running the football.  #7 Weston Schwerdt would put an end to the opening possession by forcing a fumble, and #43 Luke Carver would recover to give HHS possession.  On the 3rd play of Hendersonville’s first offensive series, they would throw an interception that the Buccaneers returned to the 9 yard line setting them up with 1st and goal to go.  It would take 4 plays, but BHS would find the endzone with a short run to take an early 7 point lead.  #32 Derek Kincaid would rush for a first down to get the HHS offense moving as the first quarter came to a close.

Schwerdt would get a 1st down run to start the 2nd quarter, but after 3 more plays, Hendersonville would be forced to punt.  The Buccaneers would have a couple of 1st downs on their next series before being forced to punt.  Hendersonville would get on the scoreboard on the next possession as they moved the ball with runs by Carver and Kincaid while #82 Austin Halas would get a 1st down catch from #6 Brett Coker.  Coker would cross the goaline to tie the score at 7 with a 1 yard run.  With the game tied, the COMMANDO defense would force a 3 & out.  A bad snap on the punt along with great hustle by Kincaid would lead to 2 points for HHS as Kincaid was able to tackle the punter in the endzone for a safety.  With the kick after the safety, Hendersonville would have the ball at midfield as time was running down in the 1st half.  HHS would run three plays, before going to the locker room with a 9-7 lead.

The COMMANDOS would get the ball to start the 2nd half, but after going 3 & out, BHS would have the ball with good field position.  A big run to start this drive would put Beech in scoring territory.  Hendersonville would hold them to a 31 yard field goal that gave the Buccaneers a 1 point lead.  Each team would be forced 3 & out on their next possessions.  After the punts, #3 Anthony Hughes picked a 1st down with a reception, and Schwerdt would score with a 15 yard run on the next play.  #38 Jacob Harris would get the PAT after a Hendersonville penalty to make the score 16-10.  Carver would break up a pass attempt on the next Beech possession helping Hendersonville force a 3 & out.  The Beech punt would be the last play of the 3rd quarter.

Coker would keep this series going for the COMMANDOS by converting a 4th down with a run.  Hendersonville would eventually find the endzone as #81 Jordan Amis would fall on a fumble in the endzone.  HHS would convert a 2 point try, but it would be negated due to penalty forcing HHS to kick the PAT leaving the score at 23-10.  The Buccaneers would get a drive going with a couple of first downs on the ground before getting another due to an HHS penalty.  Beech would then use a trick play to score cutting the COMMANDO lead down to 6 points.  Hendersonville would commit 2 penalties on their next offensive possession as they went 3 & out.  After the punt, the Buccaneers would start this drive at the Hendersonville 42 yard line.  After converting a 4th down, they would score with a 20 yard run.  The extra point would make the score 23-24 with 1:38 left in the game.  Kincaid would make a catch and run to midfield to start the next COMMANDO drive, but HHS would turn the ball over on downs after 3 incompletions and a QB scramble.  Beech would try but could not run out the clock giving HHS one more shot with this drive starting at the BHS 41 yard line.  #84 Schuyler Robinson made a catch that would allow the COMMANDOS to try a 45 yard field goal to win.  The field goal try would be the last play of the game and was no good.

Hendersonville (2-2) will be return to Memorial Stadium next Friday night as they will take on Region foe Hillsboro.  The Burros (2-2) are on a 2 game winning streak.  The game next week will begin at 7:00.

The Freshman (2-1) and the JV team will play at home next week.  The JV will play on Monday at Memorial Stadium starting at 6:00 against Beech.  The Freshman team will play on Thursday night starting at 6:30 as they will host the Smyrna Bulldogs.
