SWEET HOMECOMING
Friday, September 23, 2016

For the fifth consecutive year, the COMMANDOS were able to get a victory in their homecoming game.  This one would be a 44-28 win over the East Nashville Eagles.  Hendersonville would take a 23-0 lead into halftime before taking a commanding 37-0 lead in the 3rd quarter.  The Eagles would rally in the 4th quarter, but it would be not enough as HHS went on to win by 16 points.

East Nashville would receive the opening kickoff, and the Black & Gold defense would quickly force a 3 & out with help from #25 Eric Tilson as he sacked the quarterback on the 1st snap.  On offense, Hendersonville would also look sharp, moving the ball down the field with runs by #43 Luke Carver and #3 Anthony Hughes.  Quarterback #6 Brett Coker would then connect with #82 Austin Halas on a pass that set up 1st and goal at the 4 yard line.  Carver would finish the drive with a 4 yard touchdown run.  After the PAT failed, HHS would have an early 6-0 lead.  ENHS would pick a first down due to a penalty on the COMMANDOS before ripping off a run that would move them to midfield.  #34 Christian Bozeman would force a fumble that #51 Brandon Butler recovered to give HHS the ball back.  Hendersonville would capitalize off the turnover as Hughes would score on a run after a catch by #32 Derek Kincaid and a run by #7 Weston Schwerdt would move the ball on the drive.  #97 Ashton Dodd would add the PAT to make the score 13-0.  On their ensuing possession, the Eagles would get the ball moving near the end of the 1st quarter.

A bad snap would be recovered by #81 Jordan Amis to end the Eagles hopes of getting on the board.  After one first down, HHS would be forced to punt, but a penalty on East Nashville would give the COMMANDOS the ball back.  Kincaid would convert a 3rd down with a run allowing HHS to add to their lead with a 44 yard field goal by Dodd.  On this series for ENHS, a big run would be negated by penalty and then HHS would force a 3 & out.  Coker would go to the air on the next Hendersonville drive connecting with Hughes then twice to #2 Gabe Dalton with the 2nd being good for a 19 yard touchdown giving HHS a 23-0.  Each team would get the ball one more time before halftime.

In the 2nd half, the COMMANDOS would pick up where the left off as Carver returned the opening 2nd half kickoff to the 50 yard line.  Runs by Schwerdt and Hughes would get the ball moving before Coker scored with a 14 yard run.  The Eagles would get a couple of 1st downs by passing on their next series before punting.  Schwerdt would have a big run on 3rd down to keep the next HHS possession going.  #24 Reggie Harris would add a 1st down run before Hughes found the endzone again, this time with a 45 yard run extending the lead to 37-0.  The Eagles would have a big pass play as the 3rd quarter came to a close.

Another big pass play from the Eagles would start the 4th quarter and get the ball inside the 5 yard line.  They would score on the next play with a 4 yard run.  Kincaid would breakup a pass to halt a 2 point try.  After a failed onside attempt, HHS would go 3 & out.  On this series for East Nashville, Hughes would get a sack before Tilson came up with an interception that he returned 35 yards for Hendersonville’s final score of the night.  East Nashville would return the ensuing kickoff into HHS territory, and quickly score with a 26 yard pass.  They would convert this 2 point try to make the score 44-14.  Hendersonville would fumble on the 2nd play of their next drive, and the Eagles would score on their 1st snap with a 21 yard run, add the 2 point conversion, and make the score 44-22.  ENHS would recover this onside kick, and after a sack by #76 Wilson Higgs, they would convert a 4th down.  East Nashville would continue driving and eventually score on the last play of the game making the final score 44-28.

Hendersonville (4-2) will be at home again next week and back in Region 6 as the Station Camp Bison (3-3) come to town.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 at Memorial Stadium.

The Freshman (4-1) were able to get another win last week as they defeated Republic High School by a score of 35-16.  This Thursday, the Freshman will be on the road as they will travel to Station Camp with a start time of 6:30.
