HHS WINS THIRD STRAIGHT HOME GAME
Friday, September 30, 2016

After dropping two straight games, HHS won their 3rd consecutive home game by defeating Station Camp 24-14 at Memorial Stadium.  The victory improves the COMMANDOS record to 5-2.  Hendersonville would force two turnover and add two goaline stands in the victory.

Station Camp would receive the opening kickoff and after picking up a couple of 1st downs, they would punt.  The COMMANDOS would muff the punt turning the ball over to the Bison just 23 yards from the endzone.  A run on the 1st play after the turnover would set SCHS up with a 1st and goal.  The Black & Gold defense was able to hold the Bison out of then endzone forcing them to settle for a 25 yard field goal, making the score 0-3.  On Hendersonville’s first possession, they would go 3 plays then punt.  Station Camp would hold the ball for the rest of the 1st quarter as they moved the ball down the field helped by a COMMANDO penalty on a 4th down situation.

A Bison pass in the 2nd quarter would get the ball inside the red zone, but #5 Xavier Fitts would break up a pass in the endzone on 3rd down to hold the Bison to another field goal which would be good from 31 yards out putting SCHS up by 6 points.  #43 Luke Carver would catch a pass on the 1st play of Hendersonville’s next possession for the team’s first 1st down of the night.  On the next play Carver would gain another 1st down, this one by run.  After #7 Weston Schwerdt picked up a 1st down with a nice catch and run, #3 Anthony Hughes would rush the ball inside the 10 yard line.  Hughes would have another carry to get to the 1, and #6 Brett Coker would get the TD with a 1 yard run.  #97 Ashton Dodd would give HHS the lead with extra point, 7-6.  Station Camp would be held to a 3 & out on their next possession, but they would fake the punt and retain possession.  On the 1st play after the fake punt, #9 Clay Richard would force a fumble after a completed pass, and Carver would pick it up and return to the 32 yard line.  A Hendersonville fumble on the 1st play of this drive would bounce out of bounds, and then the COMMANDOS would take advantage of their turnover as Coker would connect with Hughes for a 27 yard touchdown.  The Bison would answer quickly as they would find the endzone on the 1st play of their next drive with an 82 yard TD reception.  A 2 point try would fail keeping the score at 14-12.  #84 Schuyler Robinson would return the kickoff to near midfield and Hughes would bust loose on the 1st play of the drive for a big run.  Hendersonville would add points on this possession with a 37 yard Dodd field goal.  The Bison would return their kickoff to HHS territory, but the COMMANDO defense would hold strong and a 4th down try by SCHS would be the last play of the 1st half.

Hendersonville’s opening possession of the 2nd half would look promising as #2 Gabe Dalton had a reception and Hughes moved the chains, but HHS would eventually punt.  #55 Emmitt Richardson would force a fumble on Station Camp’s first 2nd half drive, and Schwerdt would be there to fall on it giving Hendersonville the ball near midfield.  The COMMANDOS would not take advantage of this turnover going 3 & out.  #82 Austin Halas would combine with Hughes to sack Station Camp’s quarterback helping force SCHS to punt on this series.  The teams would then trade punts.

Hendersonville would be unable to convert a 3rd down to start the 4th quarter as they would punt.  HHS would then force the Bison to punt after 3 plays.  #32 Derek Kincaid would get the next Hendersonville possession going with a 1st down run, #24 Reggie Harris would then convert a 3rd down with a run moving the ball to the 20 yard line.  Hendersonville would extend their lead on this drive as Halas would catch a pass from Coker for an 18 yard TD.  Down by 12, Station Camp would convert a 3rd down with a long pass that moved the ball into HHS territory.  Another reception would give the Bison a 1st and goal, and the COMMANDO defense would respond with a goaline stand as #51 Brandon Butler would break up a 4th down pass attempt giving HHS the ball at their own 1 yard line.  HHS would pick up a 1st down as they ran the clock down.  The COMMANDOS would end the game by taking an intention safety to run the clock out making the final score 24-14.

Hendersonville (5-2) will travel next week to take on their oldest rival.  HHS will play in Gallatin’s WaveYard next Friday night with kickoff scheduled for 7:00.  The Green Wave (5-2) had their 5 game winning streak snapped last week.

The Freshman (4-2) lost on the road last week to Station Camp in over time by a score of 22-14.  They will play their final game of the season next Thursday night as they will face off against the Gallatin Freshman team at 6:30 on Paul Decker Field.  The JV team is also scheduled to wrap up their season on Monday with a game at Station Camp set to begin at 5:00.
