WAVE TOO MUCH FOR COMMANDOS
Friday, October 07, 2016

Gallatin proved to be too much for Hendersonville as they would pull away in the 4th quarter to defeat HHS by 29 points.  The COMMANDOS would be down at halftime 6-21 after being forced to settle for field goals twice with the ball inside the five yard line.  After giving up a quick third quarter score, Hendersonville would rally to pull to within 8 points before Gallatin scored 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter as HHS suffered their 3rd consecutive road loss and their 3rd Region 6 loss this season.

Hendersonville would get the ball to start the game, and #3 Anthony Hughes would have a nice first down run on the first snap of the game, however the COMMANDOS would punt after 3 more plays.  Gallatin would pick up a first down after two runs before #22 Caleb Thorton and #24 Reggie Harris combined to get a tackle for loss that would help HHS get Gallatin to 4th down.  The Green Wave would convert the 4th down with a run to keep their opening drive going.  After gaining another first down with a pass, the COMMANDOS would seem to have the Gallatin drive ended as a 3rd down pass would fall incomplete, but HHS would be flagged for roughing the passer that would keep the 15 play drive going.  The Green Wave would eventually score with a 16 yard touchdown pass putting HHS down by 7.  Hughes would once again get the COMMANDOS offense started, this time with a 1st down reception that moved the ball into Green Wave territory.  The HHS drive would continue as #7 Weston Schwerdt would have a 1st down catch and Harris would move the chains with a run.

Deep in Gallatin territory, Hendersonville would throw an incompletion before calling on #97 Ashton Dodd who connected with a 22 yard field goal cutting the Gallatin lead to 4 points.  Hendersonville would force a 3 & out on the ensuing possession, and the snap would sail over the punters head as #5 Xavier Fitts would hustle to get a tackle giving HHS the ball just 5 yards from the endzone.  After 3 plays, HHS would just gain 1 yard as they would call on Dodd again and he would be true on the 21 yard field goal to make the score 6-7.  Gallatin would start their next drive at the Hendersonville 46 yard line.  Facing a 3rd down after two good stops by the Black & Gold defense, the Green Wave would get a big play with a 42 yard pass to score again.  HHS would go three & out on their next offensive series, and Gallatin would go on an 8 play, 66 yard drive that ended with a 6 yard TD run.  Down 6-21, Schwerdt would move the COMMANDOS into GHS territory with a reception from #6 Brett Coker, but Hendersonville would bring out #35 Jonathan Lisbona to punt again.  Gallatin would have 2 more snaps before halftime.

Gallatin would get the ball to start the 2nd half, and the COMMANDO kickoff coverage would get a tackle inside the 20.  Again the Black & Gold defense would hold strong for 2 downs before giving up another long TD pass, this one for 79 yards.  Down by 22 points, Hendersonville would respond as Schwerdt, Harris, and Coker would move the ball down the field, then #43 Luke Carver set HHS up with a 1st and goal, and he would score with a 6 yard TD run.  The COMMANDOS would look good on this series as #78 Andrew Waters made the first hit on a tackle for loss before Thorton would break up a 3rd down pass forcing a punt.  Hendersonville would get a 1st down by penalty to start this drive before Harris picked up a 1st down on a tough run to give HHS a 1st and goal.  It would take HHS 4 plays, but Hughes would get into the endzone with a 1 yard run to cut the lead to 8 points.  GHS would gain a 1st down with a run as time expired in the 3rd quarter.

The COMMANDOS looked to have this Green Wave drive stopped, but another roughing the passer penalty would give Gallatin a 1st down.  After getting the 1st down, the Green Wave would continue driving the ball as this drive would cover 80 yards with 45 of those coming on Hendersonville penalties.  Gallatin would finish the series with a 14 yard TD run.  Now down 20-35, Hendersonville would fumble the ensuing kickoff giving GHS the ball 33 yards from the endzone.  The Green Wave would convert a 3rd down with a run and go on to score with another 14 yard TD run.  HHS would pick up a first down after catches by Schwerdt and #2 Gabe Dalton, but eventually turn the ball over on downs.  After getting the ball back, it would only take Gallatin 4 runs to get into the endzone again, this time with a 29 yard run that would be the final points scored of the night as HHS would go three and out before Gallatin would kneel on the ball to run the clock out.

Hendersonville (5-3) will have their off week next Friday night.  In two weeks, the COMMANDOS will have their final home game of the season as they will host Glencliff on October 21.  That game at Memorial Stadium will kickoff at 7:00.

The Freshman ended their season last Thursday night with a 33-18 win over Gallatin at Memorial Stadium.  The Freshman ended their season with a 5-2 record.
