COMMANDOS FINISH 7-3
Friday, October 28, 2016

Hendersonville’s season came to a close at Warrior Stadium as the COMMANDOS defeated Hunters Lane 41-7 to finish with a 7-3 overall record.  HHS would only have the ball on offense twice throughout the 1st half, but would use two non-offensive touchdowns to go into halftime with a 27-0 lead.  Hendersonville would have 4 interceptions in the game with two of them being returned for TD’s.  #9 Clay Richard would return an interception 79 yards for a score before #25 Eric Tilson took one back 95 yards.  #62 Bryan Strahm and #80 Hunter Toler would also add interceptions as HHS would get the victory.

Hunters Lane would get the ball first, #54 Daly Cull would come up with a tackle for loss on the first snap of the game.  The Warriors would get their drive going however as they picked up a 1st down with a Hendersonville pass interference.  The Warriors would gain another 1st down with a pass before #51 Brandon Butler would come up with a sack as HHS would force a punt.  The COMMANDOS would look good on offense as #24 Reggie Harris would rush for a 1st down on the team’s first offensive play.  #32 Derek Kincaid would catch a 1st down, then #7 Weston Schwerdt would run the ball to set up a 1st and goal.  #43 Luke Carver would find the endzone with a 4 yard run.  #38 Jacob Harris would add the extra point to give HHS an early 7-0 lead.  On the ensuing possession, the Black & Gold defense would force a 3 & out, but on the punt, HHS would run into the punter to give this HLHS possession new life.  Another defensive pass interference by the COMMANDOS would give the Warriors a 1st down then they would pass for 1st down.  Inside HHS territory, Hunters Lane would try to convert a 4th down.  On the 4th down try, Richard would intercept the pass and go 79 yards for a touchdown.  #3 Anthony Hughes would lead Richard to the endzone as he threw a key block on the score with #36 Michael King and #55 Emmitt Richardson also hustling to help Richard to the goaline.  The PAT would fail making the score 13-0.

The next Hunters Lane possession would go into the 2nd quarter.  The COMMANDO defense would again seem to have the drive ended as Schwerdt broke up a 3rd down pass, but HHS would be flagged for roughing the passer to allow HLHS to continue the drive.  A good run by the Warriors would get the ball inside the 20 yard line before the defense would tighten up forcing a field goal attempt.  The Warriors would try a fake field goal, but this is where Tilson would step in front of the pass at the 5 yard line.  Cull would provide a key block as Tilson went 95 yards for the touchdown.  Up 20-0, Hendersonville for get a 3 & out on the next drive helped by a tackle for loss by Carver and #82 Austin Halas.  Hughes would pick a 1st down with a run and so would Kincaid as HHS moved the ball.  #6 Brett Coker would connect with #84 Schuyler Robinson to move the ball inside the 10 yard line, and Reggie Harris would go into the endzone with a 7 yard TD run.  #29 Jacob Eicher would have a big hit on the ensuing kickoff for HHS.  On this drive, time would run out in the 1st half sending the teams to the break with HHS up 27-0.

The COMMANDOS would get the ball to start the second half, and it wouldn’t take long for them to extend their lead as Hughes would rush for a 1st down on the 1st play before Reggie Harris moved the ball inside the 10 yard line with a run.  Hughes would finish the drive with a 3 yard TD run making it 34-0 after Jacob Harris’s PAT.  Dull would force a fumble on the Warriors first play of the 2nd half, but they would be able to recover it back.  On the 2nd snap for HLHS, Carver would knock a pass up in the air in on what looked to be a completion and Strahm would be there to get a turnover for Hendersonville.  On the 1st play following the turnover, #16 Justin Ernst would get a pass off under heavy pressure to Hughes.  Hughes would race 31 yards down the sideline for the final Hendersonville points of the night.  #34 Christian Bozeman would get a tackle for loss before Schwerdt would intercept a pass.  Schwerdt’s interception was ruled out of bounds so the Warriors would punt.  Ernst would connect with #31 Tyler Dang for a 1st down as the 3rd quarter came to an end.

Hendersonville would eventually turn the ball over on downs.  The Warriors would bust a long run to start their next drive.  Their drive would continue down the field as they picked up 1st downs on the ground and by HHS penalty.  They would eventually find the endzone with a 9 yard run.  HHS would go three & out.  #57 would get a tackle for loss for the COMMANDOS on the next Warrior possession before Toler got his interception giving HHS the ball back.  The COMMANDOS would return the favor with a fumble.  HHS would then force a turnover on downs.  A Hendersonville fumble recovered by the Warriors would be the final play of the game as HHS won 41-7.

Hendersonville’s season ended with win at Warrior Stadium as the team failed to qualify for the postseason.  The COMMANDOS finished with a 7-3 overall record.
