BUCS EXTEND STREAK OVER COMMANDOS
Friday, October 23, 2009

HHS lost their 5th straight to the Beech Buccaneers Friday night 9-21.  The loss drops the COMMANDOS to 6-3 on the season putting them in 4th place in District 9-AAA with 1 game left to play.  Beech relied on big plays off their 300 yards of total offense.  HHS could not get any big plays with their 176 yards.

HHS would receive the opening kickoff and go nowhere as they had three plays and then punted.  Beech took the ball, and after a penalty would give the Bucs a first down, they would get their first big play of the night hitting a wide open receiver for a 49 yard TD reception giving Beech a lead that they would not give up all night.  Hendersonville would get a first down on their next possession before punting the ball back to Beech.  The teams would then exchange possessions on three and outs.  HHS would be gaining control of field position with #35 Richie Reichenberger’s leg.  Having Beech backed up, the COMMANDO defense would force another 3 and out helped by #34 Whit Gray getting a sack on 3rd down.  HHS would then force a bad punt giving them the ball at the Bucs 29 yard line.

HHS would only go three plays before settling for a 40 yard field goal that Reichenberger would hit on the sloppy field making the score 3-7.  Beech would answer quickly, going 80 yards on 7 plays capping their drive off with their 2nd big play of the night, this one a 52 yard TD run extending their lead to 11 points.  HHS would punt 2 more times, and Beech once before going into halftime with the COMMANDOS trailing 3-14.

The COMMANDOS started the 2nd half strong, stuffing the Bucs on 3 consecutive plays forcing a punt.  The punt would hit off a COMMANDO player, and Beech player would recover the live ball for the games 1st turnover.  Beech would get the ball back with a short field.  The defense would play well again with #14 Jeremiah Lambert getting an interception on a 3rd down pass.  Hendersonville would not be able to capitalize off the turnover punting the ball back to the Bucs after 3 plays.  Beech would return the punt after 3 plays.  Hendersonville would then get their best offensive drive of the night marching the ball 75 yards on 9 plays, and scoring their only TD of the night.  The touchdown would be a pass from #12 Elijah Howell to #4 Nigel Jones from 25 yards out.  HHS would miss the PAT making the score 9-14 late in the 3rd quarter.

On the second play of the 4th quarter, Lambert would force a fumble that #25 James Gillen would recover; however the ruling of the fumble would be overturned, and Beech would keep the ball.  5 plays later, they would find the endzone on a 23 yard TD pass for the games final score of the night.  HHS would have a few more chances with the ball, but were unable to score making the final score 9-21.

The COMMANDOS will play their last game of the season next Friday at Memorial Stadium versus the Gallatin Green Wave.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00, and it will be senior night for the COMMANDOS.
