COMMANDOS END REGULAR SEASON WITH SHUTOUT
Friday, October 30, 2009

HHS shutout rival Gallatin to end the regular season 31-0.  The Black and Gold defense only gave up 105 total yards to the Green Wave; while the offense was lead by #9 Austin Harris’s 100 yards rushing (on 13 carries) for the victory.  The COMMANDOS move to 3rd place in District 9-AAA, and get an automatic playoff berth.  They will host Clarksville Northeast next Friday for a first round game.

HHS received the opening kickoff and went 3 and out.  After #35 Richie Reichenberger’s punt, Gallatin was able to get 1 first down before being forced to punt themselves.  The offense would seem to get moving after a 1st down, but would turn the ball over on a fumble giving the Green Wave the ball on the COMMANDOS 30 yard line.  Three plays later #5 Patrick Cash would intercept a Gallatin pass on a 3rd down play to give HHS the ball back.

The COMMANDOS offensive drive after the pick would go into the 2nd Quarter as they would drive 94 yards on 13 plays for the games first score.  The drive would be helped by a 3rd down conversion on a pass from #12 Elijah Howell to #4 Nigel Jones, a Harris 3rd down conversion, and then #17 Jonathan Snavely would run for a first down on a 4th down play.  Howell would cap the drive off with a 10 yard TD run to put the COMMANDOS up 7-0.  Gallatin would get 1 1st down before being forced to punt, and Snavely would force a bad punt that would net 0 yards giving the COMMANDOS the ball at the Green Wave 39 yard line.  On 1st down, Howell would scramble the distance for what looked like his 2nd rushing TD of the night, but HHS was holding on the play and it would come back.  8 plays later the Black and Gold would get their second TD, this one from #33 Chris Moore on a 1 yard run.  Gallatin would go 9 plays, and get the ball to the COMMANDO 44 yard line before time ran out on the half with HHS leading 14-0.

After Gallatin received the 2nd half kickoff, the Black and Gold defense would force a 3 and out helped by a Green Wave penalty on 3rd down.  On the COMMANDOS first drive of the second half, Harris would rip off a long run on first down, but the COMMANDOS would end up settling for a 23 yard Reichenberger field goal to go up 17-0.  Gallatin would get the ball moving after the field goal, but after getting into COMMANDO territory, #57 Joe Townsend would force a fumble and #34 Whit Gray was there to recover the ball and give HHS the ball back for the COMMANDOS second takeaway of the night.  HHS would not respond, but Reichenberger’s punt would pin the Green Wave on their own 6 yard line.

Gallatin would go 3 and out, and be forced to punt on the first play of the 4th Quarter.  HHS would have their second turnover 3 plays later.  The defense would respond as #24 Brett Jaeckel would get a sack on 1st down, and then #4 Nigel Jones would get an interception giving the ball back to COMMANDOS on a short field.  4 plays later Howell would score his second rushing TD of the night on a 7 yard run to put HHS up 24-0.  The Green Wave would be forced 3 and out again, and this time #2 Taylor Bozeman would force a bad punt by Gallatin.  HHS would waste no time getting an insurance TD on the board as #3 LaDontez Bryant would take the 1st play 25 yards for a touchdown putting the final points on the board.  On the ensuing possession, #11 AJ Beck would defend a long pass attempt, and then #49 Ryan Dillehay would come up a fumble recovery.  HHS was then able to run out the clock for the 31-0 victory.

The COMMANDOS will play in the 1st Round of the TSSAA playoffs at home versus Clarksville Northeast next Friday, November 6 at Memorial Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00.
