Friday, September 03, 2010

Hendersonville was able to get their first win of the 2010 season over district 9-AAA foe Lebanon 47-7.  The COMMANDOS got 28 points in the 1st Quarter to help them bounce back from their week 1 loss and roll in their first home game.

HHS kicked off to start the game, and just like last week, the defense quickly forced a punt after three plays.  Seniors #57 Joe Townsend and #80 Troy Dye were able to pressure the Lebanon QB on 3rd down and force a bad throw.  The COMMANDO offense got the ball with good field position and went on a nice drive that would end with a 4 yard TD run by #33 Chris Moore on the 9th play.  HHS would come up with a turnover on the ensuing Lebanon possession as #40 Chauncey Thomas would deflect a pass and #12 Elijah Howell would be there to get the interception setting up Hendersonville’s second score of the night which would be a one play drive as Howell would hit #4 Nigel Jones to put HHS up 14-0.  On Lebanon’s next drive #20 David Priddy would get a tackle for loss on 1st down, and then on 3rd down #2 Taylor Bozeman would get a sack and force a fumble that #8 Hunter Brown would recover for the defensive touchdown.  Priddy would get a big hit breaking up a pass on the Blue Devils next possession, and after three plays Lebanon would be in a punting situation.  They would try the fake, but the COMMANDOS special teams would have none of that as #34 Whit Gray would sniff out the fake and force a fumble that Bozeman recovered.  Having the ball at the Lebanon 26 yardline, Moore would score his second TD of the night on a 15 yard run, putting HHS up 28-0.  The quarter would end with a sack by Townsend during the Blue Devils next drive.

HHS would force another punt, but would be called for roughing the punter, allowing Lebanon to keep the ball.  After a 4th down conversion, the Blue Devils would get a field goal opportunity, but would miss the 34 yarder.  The COMMANDO offense would get a drive going on their next possession ending with another touchdown, this one would be a pass caught by Dye that was thrown by Brown.  Gray would end the Blue Devil’s next drive as he recovered a QB/RB exchange fumble.  Three plays later #5 Jarrell Adams would take the ball 49 yards for the teams last TD before halftime.  The defense would force the Blue Devils to punt again before the half helped by #48 Colt Cupit breaking up 2 passes.  After HHS got the ball back, they would run the clock out for the 1st half, and go into the locker room up 41-0.

The COMMANDO scoring fest would continue on the 2nd half kickoff as Jones would get his second TD of the night with a 93 yard kickoff return, the 2nd longest in COMMANDO football history.  Lebanon would fake another punt on their next possession, and this one would be successful, but Jones would end their drive with an interception.  The Blue Devils would then force HHS to punt.

The next Blue Devil drive would be stopped on a 4th down play where #49 Ryan Dillehay and #55 Ryan Ward would combine for the stop.  HHS would be forced to punt again.  The COMMANDOS were unable to keep the shutout as Lebanon would score on a 15 yard TD run on their next possession, and then HHS would run out the clock with the game ending 47-7 in favor of the COMMANDOS.
