DISTRICT WIN NUMBER 2
Friday, October 01, 2010

The COMMANDOS were able to get the second district win with an outstanding defensive performance shutting out Wilson Central 27-0.  The teams remained scoreless until right before halftime when HHS was able to get a TD on a 1 yard run by #8 Hunter Brown.  The COMMANDOS would add 20 points in the 4th Quarter to secure the victory and improve their record to 4-2.

HHS would kickoff to start the game, and after Wilson Central picked up 1 first down, #34 Whit Gray would come up with a tackle for loss on a 3rd down play to force the first punt of the night.  The COMMANDOS would look impressive on their first offensive possession driving the ball for 13 plays before coming up empty with a missed 42 yard fieldgoal.  The Black & Gold defense would get the ball back quickly force the Wildcats to punt after 3 plays.

HHS would get the ball at the Wilson Central 44 yard line, and move it inside the red zone to the 13 yard line before fumbling the ball back to the Wildcats.  HHS would get another 3 and out as #12 Elijah Howell knocked down a 3rd down pass.  The offense would move the ball again helped by a catch on 4th down by #45 Austin Lamb for 15 yards, and then Gray getting a 3rd down reception that set up a 4th and 1 that Hunter Brown would pick up.  #20 David Priddy would then run the ball to the 1 yard line setting up Brown’s 1 yard TD run.  #38 Shawn Bowerman would add the PAT putting HHS up 7-0 with less than 1 minute remaining before halftime.  WCHS would pick up back to back first downs before #80 Troy Dye would push them back with a sack that #21 Jeff Patton assisted on.  Howell would break up another pass on the last play of the first half.

The Wildcats would be unsuccessful on an onside kick attempt to start the second half with #85 Julian Hogin knocking the ball out of bounds giving the COMMANDOS possession at the WC 49 yard line.  HHS would not take advantage of the field position as they would go three and out.  Bowerman’s punt would pin the Wildcats on their own 8 yard line, and on third down #57 Joe Townsend would force a fumble that #2 Taylor Bozeman pounced on at the 16 yard line.  The COMMANDOS would come away empty again as they missed their second field goal of the night.  HHS would force the Wildcats to punt after three plays.

The COMMANDOS would find the endzone on the next possession as #7 Conner Kant would make a 32 yard reception on 3rd down, and Priddy would score from 10 yards out on the next play.  On the second play of the next Wildcat series, Gray would force a fumble that he would also recover setting HHS up with good field position.  The COMMANDOS did take advantage of their good fortune with #33 Chris Moore scoring on a 9 yard run, and after missing the PAT, HHS was up 20-0.  The COMMANDO special teams unit would stop a fake punt attempt by the Wildcats on their next possession.  HHS would drive the ball again, and this time it would be #49 Ryan Dillehay running into the endzone from 4 yards out.  The Wildcats would run 2 more plays for no gain before the buzzer sounded to end the game with the COMMANDOS winning 27-0.

Hendersonville (4-2) will travel to Station Camp (1-5) next Friday to take on the Bison.  This is another District 9-AAA contest, and kickoff will be at 7:00.

The JV team will play at Wilson Central on Monday with a game time of 2:00 pm, and the Freshman team will host Station Camp at Memorial Stadium on Thursday at 6:30.
