COMMANDOS PREVAIL IN OVERTIME
Friday, October 22, 2010

#69 Cayman Russell would get a tackle in the backfield to stop a Beech 2 point try in overtime giving Hendersonville the 1 point win ending the Bucs streak of 5 straight wins in the cross town rivalry.  The COMMANDOS were lead by a strong defensive performance, #38 Shawn Bowerman’s 10 points, and #20 David Priddy’s TD in OT as they were able to beat the defending 5A State Champion Beech Buccaneers at Memorial Stadium.

The COMMANDOS would get the ball to start the game, and the HHS offense looked good moving the ball into Beech territory before the drive stalled.  Hendersonville would call on Bowerman for a field goal, and he would connect on the 42 yarder giving HHS an early 3-0 lead.  On Beech’s third offensive play #45 Austin Lamb would come with the games only turnover as he would intercept the Buc QB.  Hendersonville would get another drive going on offense as they snapped 9 plays before being forced to punt.  Bowerman would pin the Bucs inside their own 5 yard line with the punt.  Beech would be able to get the ball off their own goal line with a first down before the 1st Quarter would come to an end.

The Bucs drive would continue into the 2nd Quarter before #34 Whit Gray, #23 Ryan Rogers, and Russell would combine for a tackle on a 4th down to stop the Bucs short giving HHS the ball back.  Hendersonville would give up a sack on 1st down and then punt after 2 more plays.  The COMMANDOS would force a 3 and out as #80 Troy Dye would get a sack on 3rd down.  HHS would also go 3 and out giving the Bucs the ball back.  Beech would then go a 60 yard scoring drive as they would complete a pass for a 30 yard TD on a 3rd down.  The PAT would be no good making the score 3-6.  The COMMANDOS responded with a scoring drive of their own helped by a 4th down conversion by #4 Nigel Jones on a catch that came from #8 Hunter Brown.  HHS would then call on Bowerman again, and he would nail his 2nd fieldgoal of the night, this one being from 43 yards away.  Beech would have time to run 2 more offensive plays before the teams headed to the locker room tied 6-6.

Beech got the ball to start the second half, and they would look good driving the ball down the field before #57 Joe Townsend would get a sack on a 3rd down play forcing the Bucs to settle for a 38 yard fieldgoal that would be true giving them a 3 point advantage.

The COMMANDOS next drive would be 12 plays and go into the 4th Quarter.  However, HHS would only come away with 3 points as Bowerman would come out for the 3rd time to hit the 20 yard field goal.  The teams would then trade punts on 3 plays each.  Beech would then get a couple of first downs before being forced to punt with the ball around midfield.  Hendersonville would be forced to punt two more times, and Beech once before the 4th Quarter ended with the game tied 9-9.

HHS went on offense first in overtime.  #12 Elijah Howell would get the call on 1st down picking up 6 yards, and Priddy would go the remaining 4 yards on 2nd down, after Bowerman added the PAT HHS would be up 16-9.  Beech was able to score on their 3rd play in the OT on a 5 yard TD run.  The Bucs decided to go for the win on the 2 point conversion, and Russell would get a tackle for loss to give HHS the victory with a final score of 16-15.

Hendersonville (7-2) will play their last regular season game next Friday at the Waveyard as they travel to Gallatin to take on the Green Wave (6-3).  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
