COMMANDOS BURIED AT WAVE YARD
Friday, October 29, 2010

Special teams mistakes, defense giving up long drives, and only being able to muster 5 yards of offense in the second half lead to a 19-22 defeat.  The loss made the COMMANDOS final record for 2010 7-3.

Hendersonville received the ball to start the game, and quickly went 3 and out.  #69 Cayman Russell would come up with a sack on the 1st snap for the Green Wave.  Gallatin would then get a big play on 2nd down, but after #34 Whit Gray got a sack, the COMMANDOS held the Green Wave to a punt.  Gallatin converted on a fake punt keeping their drive going with the ball now at 30 yard line.  On the next play Gallatin would come up with a 30 yard TD pass for the 1st points of the night putting HHS in a 0-7 hole.  The COMMANDOS would pick up 1 1st down before being forced to punt for the second time.  The Black & Gold defense would force a punt after 3 plays, however bad luck would strike the COMMANDOS as the punt would hit an HHS player, and Gallatin would recover.  The defense would take the field again and give it back to HHS after 4 plays as #23 Ryan Rogers, #12 Elijah Howell, and #85 Julian Hogin would defend passes.

The COMMANDOS next drive would go into the 2nd Quarter.  The 12 play drive would be capped as #8 Hunter Brown would find #33 Chris Moore for 5 yard TD reception, knotting the score at 7.  The Green Wave would get 1 1st down on their next series, but then #80 Troy Dye would combine with #57 Joe Townsend on a sack and the drive would end with a punt.  HHS would get the ball in scoring position before missing a 45 yard field goal.  Townsend would recover a fumble on the next Green Wave possession.  With the ball at the Green Wave 35 yard line, a run by Howell and a Green Wave personal foul would set up a 1st and goal for the COMMANDOS, and Brown would throw for his 2nd TD pass of the night, this one a 7 yarder to Howell with 16 seconds left in the 1st half giving the COMMANDOS their first lead of the night 13-7, and after missing the PAT the score would remain with HHS up by 6.  HHS would give up their first kickoff return for a TD of the year as Gallatin would go 92 yards to score as time ran out putting them up as the teams headed to the locker room with the score 13-14.

Gallatin got the ball to start the 2nd half, and picked up a first down on the first play, then Townsend would force a fumble on sack that was assisted by Gray; #2 Taylor Bozeman would pick up the ball and go 3 yards for a defensive touchdown.  HHS would go for two, but would not be able to convert making the score 19-14 early in the 3rd Quarter.  The COMMANDOS would force a 3 and out on the ensuing possession as Bozeman would get a sack and then #5 Jarell Adams would break up a pass.  Getting the ball with great field position, HHS would not take advantage as they would end up missing a 42 yard field goal.  The Black & Gold would get a 3 and out, but would return the ball to the Green Wave after 3 offensive plays.  HHS would allow the Wave to convert 2 3rd downs before Bozeman would get a sack and Rogers, Hogin, and Adams would get pass break ups.

The COMMANDOS would give up a sack on 2nd down en route to another 3 and out.  HHS would then allow Gallatin to run 11 offensive plays converting on a 4th down that set up a 1st and goal, and 2 plays later the Green Wave would get the go ahead TD, and convert on a 2 point conversion to make the score 19-22.  Down by 3, the COMMANDOS would get the ball back with good field position, but go 3 plays before being forced to punt.  The Green Wave would run the final 12 plays of the game taking the last 5:57 off the clock ending the game 19-22 in favor of the Green Wave.

Hendersonville (7-3) finished 4th in District 9-AAA behind District Champion Beech, Runner-Up Gallatin, and Mt. Juliet.  That gives the COMMANDOS a 5th place seed in the playoffs making us travel to the 4th seeded Gallatin Green Wave (7-3).  HHS will go back to the Wave Yard next Friday night for a 1st Round playoff game.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
