SWEET REDEMPTION
Friday, November 05, 2010

After losing week 10 19-22 to Gallatin, HHS had to travel back to the WAVEYARD for the second straight week.  The rivalry game this time would be a 1st Round TSSAA 5A playoff match up with the outcome being much better for the COMMANDOS as they would claim the 20 point victory.  #20 David Priddy would score 3 touchdowns, 2 in the 4th quarter helping the COMMANDOS proceed to the 2nd Round of the playoffs.

Just like last week, Hendersonville would receive the opening kickoff; unlike last week, the COMMANDOS would get a score on their 1st possession.  The drive would start close to midfield, and after Priddy would get a big 1st down on a 4th down run, #5 Jarrell Adams would score the 1st points of the night with a 25 yard TD run on the next play.  #38 Shawn Bowerman would come out to hit the PAT, and give HHS an early 7-0 lead that they would not surrender.  Gallatin 1st possession of the game would produce one 1st down before they would mishandle a snap that #2 Taylor Bozeman would recover giving Hendersonville the ball at the Green Wave 40 yard line.  The COMMANDOS would waste the great field position going three plays before punting.  Bowerman’s punt would be muffed by the Gallatin returner, and #23 Ryan Rogers was right there for the COMMANDOS second take away of the night setting up the Black & Gold with a 1st and goal at the 9 yard line.  Two plays later, Priddy would score his 1st TD of the night on a 1 yard run.  The COMMANDO defense would force the Green Wave to go three and out helped by #34 Whit Gray coming up with a sack.  HHS would get a first down on their first play, but would punt the ball back to Gallatin after 3 more plays.

On Gallatin’s next series, they would gain a 1st down before #12 Elijah Howell would end their drive as he came up with an interception.  HHS would not capitalize on the turnover as they would have to punt the ball back to the Wave.  Gallatin would cut the lead in half following the punt as they would drive the ball for 12 plays marching down the field before getting an 8 yard TD pass on a 4th down play making the score 14-7.  Hendersonville would quickly answer after #8 Hunter Brown would connect with #4 Nigel Jones on a 50 yard pass that set up a 1st and goal.  Brown would then take the ball in himself on a 1 yard run.  HHS would force a 3 and out on the ensuing Gallatin possession, but would give the ball back to the Green Wave on a fumble after completing a pass.  Gallatin would get into field goal range, but time would run out before Gallatin could get the snap off sending the teams into locker rooms with HHS holding a 21-7 lead.

Gallatin’s opening possession of the first half would end on a failed 4th down conversion attempt.  After the teams traded punts, the COMMANDOS would make their worst mistake of the night throwing an interception that the Wave would take 18 yards into the endzone making the score 21-14.

The COMMANDOS were ready to respond as they would march the ball down the field going 65 yards in 14 plays before Priddy would score with an 8 yard run.  The defense would force a punt after 3 plays, and #48 Colt Cupit would block the Wave’s punt.  #22 Nolan Ogburn was there to recover it on the 6 yard line.  The blocked punt would set up Priddy’s 3rd TD of the night, this one being a 1 yard run.  Down by 3 scores, Gallatin would get the ball moving before Rogers would intercept a Green Wave pass around midfield allowing the COMMANDOS to run out the clock.

Hendersonville (8-3) earned a trip to the 2nd Round of the playoffs and will have to travel to Paris to take on the top-seeded Henry County Patriots (10-1).  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
