COMMANDOS EARN HOME GAME
Friday, November 12, 2010

Lead by #20 David Priddy’s 116 rushing yards, Hendersonville was able to travel to Paris and knock off the #1 seeded Henry County Patriots 24-10.  #23 Ryan Rogers had an 88 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the 2nd half that gave the COMMANDOS a 2 score lead, and the Black & Gold defense was able to shutout the Patriots in the 2nd half.  The win will send HHS back to Memorial Stadium for the team’s first Quarter Final appearance since 2003.

The COMMANDOS kicked off to start the game, and the defense forced a Patriot punt after 3 plays.  Hendersonville’s first offensive play would be a 29 yard completion from #8 Hunter Brown to #4 Nigel Jones, but three plays later HHS would return the ball to HCHS on a punt by #38 Shawn Bowerman.  Starting at their own 20 yard line, the Patriots would march the ball down the field getting it inside the COMMANDOS 10 yard line before being forced to settle for a 30 yard field goal.  The kick would give Henry County an early 3 point advantage.

The COMMANDOS would answer on their ensuing possession with a 67 yard scoring drive that would take 11 plays before Brown would find #80 Troy Dye in the endzone for the team’s first points of the night making the score 7-3.  Henry County would drive the ball again before being forced into a punting situation.  The Patriots would try a fake punt, but #34 Whit Gray would deny HCHS the 1st down giving Hendersonville the ball back.  On the next play, the COMMANDOS would throw an interception that would be returned to the COMMANDO 29 yard line.  The Patriots would take advantage of the take away as 6 plays later they would get into the endzone with a 6 yard TD pass giving them the lead back 7-10.  Once again the COMMANDO offensive unit would respond, this drive would end with Brown passing to #5 Jarrell Adams who would go 26 yards for the touchdown making the score 14-10 after Bowerman’s PAT.  Henry County’s next drive would end as #7 Conner Kant would come up with an interception for the COMMANDOS with 43 seconds left before halftime.  The COMMANDOS would take a knee and head to locker room with a 4 point lead.

Rogers would take the opening kickoff of the 2nd half 88 yards for the COMMANDO TD extending the lead to 11 points.  The Patriots would look to cut into the lead as they got a 1st and goal at the 8 yard line, but 4 plays later they would give the ball back to HHS without scoring after a 13 play drive.  Hendersonville pick up 1 first down before being forced to punt.  HHS would fake the punt, and Gray would pick up the 1st down for the COMMANDOS keeping their drive alive.

HHS would get one more first down before punting the ball to HCHS.  Bowerman would pin the Patriots on their own 7 yard line.  Dye would get a tackle for loss on the Henry County drive before #57 Joe Townsend would come up with a fumble recovery giving the COMMANDOS the ball at the plus 13 yard line.  HHS would lose 2 yards on their drive, but Bowerman would connect on a 36 yard field goal making the score 24-10.  The Patriots would have another 13 play drive, but again come up with no points.  This time Priddy would get a 3rd down stop inches short of the first down marker that was at the 2 yard line, and #69 Cayman Russell would end the drive with a tackle for loss on 4th down.  On the next COMMANDO drive, Priddy would get an 18 yard run on the 1st play, and then Adams would convert a 3rd down that would allow Brown to take a knee and run out the clock with the score 24-10.

Hendersonville (9-3) will return home next week to host the Clarksville Northeast Eagles (8-4) at Memorial Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
