COMMANDOS SURVIVE AND ADVANCE
Friday, November 19, 2010

Two long TD passes by #8 Hunter Brown helped the COMMANDOS survive the Quarter Finals and earn their 4th trip to the Semi-Finals of the playoffs.  Northeast was able to jump out to an early 0-7 lead before the COMMANDOS would score 17 unanswered points giving HHS a 10 point advantage in the 3rd Quarter.  There was no quit in the Eagles as they would score 2 consecutive touchdowns to regain the lead 17-21 in the final Quarter.  Brown would connect with #20 David Priddy on a 41 yard TD pass that would be the difference in the game as the defense was able to hold the Eagles out of the endzone.  The 24-21 victory gives the COMMANDOS their 4th trip to the Semi-Final Round of the playoffs.

HHS would get the ball to start the game, and from the first play from scrimmage look ready to play as Priddy would rip off a 17 yard run to start the game.  The COMMANDO offense would look sharp driving the ball to the Eagle 25 yard line before throwing an interception that the Eagles #25 was able to return 80 yards for the games first points of the night.  Hendersonville would get another possession after the kickoff, but this one would not look as promising as the rattled COMMANDOS would only get 1 first down before being forced to punt.  Up by 7, Northeast would have their first offensive series and they would look to add to their lead.  However, after driving to the COMMANDO 24 yard line, #5 Jarrell Adams and #12 Elijah Howell would combine to force an incompletion on a 4th down conversion attempt on the final play of the 1st Quarter.

On the first play of the of the 2nd Quarter, Brown would hook up with #4 Nigel Jones for a 76 yard TD knotting the score at 7 after #38 Shawn Bowerman’s PAT.  NEHS would look to respond as they would get a 56 yard run on the 1st play of the ensuing possession.  They would end up getting a 1st and Goal, but 4 plays later they would have no more points as Howell would get a stop at the goaline, and #69 Cayman Russell would get a sack on 4th down.  The COMMANDOS would be forced to go 3 and out.  The Eagles would get another drive going before #45 Austin Lamb would get COMMANDOS first take away of the night as he intercepted a pass in the endzone.  HHS would again go 3 and out.  #34 Whit Gray would force a fumble on the 1st play of the Eagles next drive, and #57 Joe Townsend would fall on the loose ball giving the COMMANDOS possession of the ball at the plus 41 yard line.  HHS would give the ball right back to Northeast as they would throw their 2nd pick of the night setting up the Eagles in COMMANDO territory.  With little time left before halftime, NEHS would take a couple of shots at the endzone, but would come up empty so the teams headed into the locker rooms tied at 7 apiece.

The Black & Gold defense would take the field first to start the 2nd half, and quickly force a punt after just 3 plays.  Hendersonville would start the 2nd half just as good on offense as they would go on a 72 yard scoring march that was capped off by a 1 yard run by Brown giving HHS their first lead of the night 14-7.  Two plays into the Eagles next drive, #85 Julian Hogin would come up with the COMMANDOS 2nd interception of the night giving HHS the ball back around midfield.  Gray would have a good hard run on the 1st play before the Eagle defense would force HHS to settle for a 35 yard field goal, and a 10 point advantage.  Northeast responded on their next drive as they would go 60 yards in 6 plays for the score.  The drive was capped off with a 2 yard TD run by #34.

The COMMANDOS next drive would result in a punt after only gaining 1 first down.  Northeast would get 1 first down before a 64 yard TD run giving them the lead back at 17-21 in the 4th Quarter.  Hendersonville had to punt on their next possession after 3 plays.  The defense would then force the Eagles to  punt after 3 plays, and #23 Ryan Rogers would get a 25 yard return on the punt setting the COMMANDOS up on the Eagles 30 yard line.  After getting a penalty on a first down run, Brown would find Priddy for a touchdown.  The 41 yard pass would be the last score of the night by either team.  Northeast would get the ball and drive into scoring position before #21 Jeff Patton came up with a pass break up on 3rd down, and #5 Jarrell Adams would break up a pass on 4th giving the COMMANDOS the ball back.  Hendersonville would be able to run the clock out with the last play of the game being a punt out of bounds as time ran out.

Hendersonville (10-3) will travel to Memphis to take on the top seeded Ridgeway Roadrunners (13-0) next Friday night with the winner earning a trip to the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Bowl.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
