The Cougars got the ball on the opening kickoff, and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard; driving the ball 78 yards in just 5 plays capped by a 50 yard TD run around the right end to go up 0-7 to start the game. Dickson County’s defense then forced the COMMANDOS to go 3 and out. The Black and Gold defense would return the favor on the Cougars next possession, but a great punt would put HHS on its own 6 yard line. The COMMANDOS finally woke up and started playing, taking the ball 94 yards on 8 plays for the tying TD; a 43 yard pass from #15 Brandon Hall to #47 Nick Yazzie. After the PAT and kickoff from #35 Richie Reichenberger, #25 CJ Murrell would intercept a Cougar pass and return it to the Dickson County 11 yard line. HHS would capitalize on the next play as #12 Elijah Howell ran an option left and pitched at just the right time to #17 Jonathan Snavely who would do the rest to go in for the go ahead score. Leading 14-7, the COMMANDOS would not give up the lead the rest of the game.

After the kickoff, Dickson County’s next drive would go into the 2nd Quarter as they would have 3 third down conversions before the COMMANDO defensive unit would finally force a punt. Yazzie would come big on special teams with a return into Cougar territory, and 4 plays later Hall would keep the ball for a 1 yard TD run to put HHS up 21-7. After forcing a 3 and out, HHS had a chance to score but threw an interception with less than 3 minutes left in the half. The defense would force another 3 and out, and on this punt, Yazzie would return to the Dickson County 8 yard line, setting up a 25 yard field goal from Reichenberger to put the COMMANDOS up 24-7 at the half.

HHS would receive the opening kickoff, and only half 3 plays before having to punt. On Dickson County’s first possession of the half, Yazzie would force a fumble that #80 Troy Dye would pick up and return to the Cougar 25 yard line. HHS could not take advantage of this turnover, and would return the favor fumbling the ball back to Dickson County. The COMMANDOS would force a punt, and then the teams would trade punts.HHS then got the ball near the end of the 3rd Quarter and would drive well into the 4th Quarter, taking the ball 70 yards in 12 plays with #34 Whit Gray going in from 9 yards out to put HHS up 30-7. Yazzie would come up with an interception on the Cougar’s next possession, and then HHS would be forced to punt. The Cougars would drive down on their last possession of the game and score with less than 30 seconds left on the clock. After the kickoff, the COMMANDOS would be able to take a knee to run out clock and get the victory 30-14.

The COMMANDOS will take on Hillwood High School this Friday night at 7:30. The game will be at Memorial Stadium, and is the 2008 Homecoming Game. The Homecoming Ceremony will begin at 7:00.
