FRANKLIN EXPLODES IN 2ND HALF TO BEAT COMMANDOS
Thursday, August 25, 2011

HHS takes 11 point lead into halftime, but the COMMANDO defense gives up 6 TD’s in 6 Franklin possession during the 2nd half to lose 35-51.  The COMMANDOS had 500 total yards of offense including 304 passing yards.  The offensive production was not enough to overcome the poor defensive and special team play of the team on the Thursday Night Lights game of the week.

HHS would receive the opening kickoff and look good offensively from the beginning.  The COMMANDOS would drive the ball inside the 20 yard line after a 3rd down catch by #3 LaDontez Bryant followed by a 45 yard reception by #5 Jarrell Adams.  The drive would come up empty after a missed 35 yard field goal.  The Black & Gold defense started well as they would force the only Franklin punt of the night after #55 Ryan Ward would get a sack on 3rd down.  The punt was not fielded by the COMMANDOS putting HHS at their own 7 yard line to start their second drive of the game.  Hendersonville would throw an interception on the 1st play of the drive giving the Rebels the ball at the 11 yard line.  The Black & Gold defense was up to the challenge on this drive holding Franklin to a field goal after 3 plays.  Bryant would have a big run on the following possession for HHS, and 2 plays later #8 Hunter Brown would connect with Adams who would make a great catch over a Franklin defender for a 56 yard TD.  #38 Shawn Bowerman would add the extra point to put HHS up 7-3.

Franklin’s next possession would go into the 2nd quarter, and after driving the ball inside the COMMANDO 20 yard line, the defense would get a 4th down stop.  #45 Austin Lamb would break up a pass on 3rd down before #78 Brandon Bourk would get a tackle short of the 1st down marker to give HHS the ball back.  The COMMANDOS would get 1 first down before being forced to punt.  A big punt return would give the Rebels the ball with great field position, and it only took them 1 play to go the rest of the way to the endzone with a 32 yard TD pass which gave FHS a 3 point advantage.  On the ensuing possession, #2 Ryan Patrick would get a 3rd down reception conversion followed by a 15 yard TD run on the next 3rd down by #20 David Priddy to put the COMMANDOS back on top 14-10.  #35 Believe Kabasu would force a fumble on Franklin’s 2nd play of their next series and Patrick would come up with the recovery.  HHS would take advantage of the turnover as they would convert another 3rd down before Brown would find #81 Chad Dye for a 5 yard TD.  After a big kickoff return, the Rebels would look to score before the half, but Priddy would get an interception near the goaline.  The COMMANDOS would run out the clock sending HHS to the locker room with an 11 point lead.

Franklin would cut into the lead quickly in the 2nd half as they would score on the 4th play of the quarter with a 56 yard TD pass.  However they would miss the PAT.  HHS would go 3 and out on their first possession of the 2nd half, and 3 plays into the Rebels next offensive series, they would score on a 35 yard run breaking 5 tackles in the process.  FHS would then walk into the endzone for a 2 point conversion giving them a 3 point lead.  HHS would re-gain the lead by going on an 80 yard scoring march highlighted by a 33 yard catch by Dye before Bryant would score from 3 yards out on the drives 12th play.

On the second play of the 4th quarter, the Rebels would take the lead for good with a 24 yard untouched TD run making the score 28-31.  HHS would get a 1st down on the 1st play of their next drive, but would fumble 3 plays later.  It would only take the Rebels 2 plays to take advantage of the turnover with a 26 yard TD run.  Bryant would catch a pass and go 80 yards for a TD to pull HHS within 2 points.  A 3rd down conversion on the Rebels next drive would help them get their next score with a 10 yard TD pass.  Following another interception on the COMMANDOS next series, Franklin would score their 6th TD in as many possessions to score their 41 points in the 2nd half.  HHS would fumble letting the Rebels run the clock out with the score 35-51.

Hendersonville (1-1) will return to Memorial Stadium next Friday night for a District 9-AAA game against Wilson Central (0-2).  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

The JV team will play Monday vs Mt. Juliet at home at 6:00, and the Freshman team will travel to Wilson Central on Thursday night to take on the wildcats at 6:30.
