HHS was able to beat Portland 34-0 in a District 9-AAA contest.  The win improved the COMMANDOS record to 4-1 and 3-0 in the district.  Quarterback #8 Hunter Brown had a big night for the offense connecting on 11 of 14 passes for 178 yards and 2 TD’s.  5 of those completions went to #5 Jarrell Adams who ended the night with 112 receiving yards including the games first score on a 64 yard TD reception.

Portland received the opening kickoff and the Black & Gold defense was not ready play, giving up a 29 yard run on the second snap of the game.  The big run would put the Panthers inside COMMANDO territory.  They would drive the ball inside the 20 yard line before #45 Austin Lamb would come up with an interception ending the Panthers best scoring opportunity of the night.  The pick would give HHS the ball at their own 24 yard line, and it would only take HHS 3 plays to capitalize off the turnover as Brown would connect with Adams for the 64 yard score.  #38 Shawn Bowerman would add the point after putting the COMMANDOS up 7-0.  On the ensuing drive, Portland would drive the ball inside HHS territory once again.  This time #2 Ryan Patrick would come up with a sack on a 3rd down play ending the drive as PHS would punt.  HHS would take possession with good field position.  Adams would convert on a 3rd down on the final play of the 1st quarter.

HHS would run 3 more plays before their first punt early in the 2nd quarter.  The COMMANDOS defense would force a 3 and out.  Hendersonville would find the endzone on their next possession as #35 Believe Kabasu would get a big run followed by Adams converting on the back to back 3rd downs with catches.  The 2nd conversion would set up 1st and goal at the 3 yard line, and on the next play, #34 Corey Jones would rumble in for the score.  The Black & Gold would force the Panthers to another 3 and out after the kickoff by Bowerman.  HHS would go 37 yards on 4 plays on the next drive as #81 Chad Dye could receive a 9 yard pass from Brown putting the COMMANDOS up 21-0 with 35 seconds left in the half.  Portland would run 1 play before the teams would head to the locker rooms for halftime.

The COMMANDOS would get the ball to start the 2nd half.  #3 LaDontez Bryant would get a big 3rd down run putting the offense inside Panther territory.  HHS would give up a sack inside the 20 yard line forcing them to settle for a 33 yard field goal making the score 24-0.  Portland would pick up a first down on the ensuing drive; however Patrick would come up with an interception on the next 3rd down ending the Panther drive and giving HHS the ball at midfield.  The Black & Gold were able to pick up 1 first down before calling on Bowerman again who would be good on a 45 yard field goal.

The Panthers would go 3 and out on the next series, and after the punt, HHS would have the ball at the Panther 44 yard line.  Jones would get a 40 yard run to set up 1st and goal at the 1 yard line.  A penalty would move the ball to the 6 yard line, and 2 plays later #27 Andrew Pate would find the endzone with a 4 yard run.  #24 Bryce DeGuira would add this PAT putting HHS up 34-0.  Portland would get the ball back after the teams traded punts.  The Panthers would run 7 plays before the clock ran out and almost busted a long TD run but #85 Josh Paris was able to make a tackle and preserve the shutout for the COMMANDOS.

Hendersonville (4-1) will play their last non-District game of the season as they will take on the Riverdale Warriors (5-0) for Homecoming next Friday night at Memorial Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 with the Homecoming festivities being held at 6:30.

The JV team will take on Portland on Monday at Memorial Stadium with a start time of 6:00.  While the Freshman will also play on Paul Decker Field this Thursday versus the White House Blue Devils.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30.
