COMMANDOS DEFEAT WAVE IN 2ND ROUND

Hendersonville (8-4) was able to go to the WAVEYARD for the 2ndtime this season and avenge their 10-35 week 7 defeat to beat Gallatin (10-2)28-7.  Three different COMMANDOS scored touchdowns in the teameffort as HHS played well in all three phases of the game; offense, defense,and special teams.

HHS kicked off to start the game, and #38 Shawn Bowerman wouldkick the ball through the endzone to force Gallatin to start their firstpossession at the 20 yard line.  The Wavewould pick up 14 yards with a run on the first play of the opening drive, butthe Black & Gold defense would not allow another 1st down as HHSforced a punt after 3 more plays.  #79Curtis Brown and #32 Drew Davis would combine for a sack on 2nd downto help deny GHS another first down.  After the punt, Hendersonville’s #8 HunterBrown would complete a 25 yard pass to #3 LaDontez Bryant for the COMMANDOS first 1st down ofthe night.  HHS would pick up another 1stdown before the Green Wave would intercept a pass and return it 92 yards for ascore.  After the PAT, HHS would be down0-7 early in the contest.  With all ofthe momentum, Gallatin would force the COMMANDOSto a 3 and out.  On the punt return,Hendersonville’s #81 Chad Dye would force a fumble that #55 Ryan Ward wouldfall on giving HHS their first break of the night as they had the ball at theGHS 32 yard line.  It would only take theCOMMANDOS 3 plays to score as Bryantwould get the TD with a 19 yard run to tie the game at 7.  After the kickoff, HHS would force a 3 andout as Brown and Davis would combine for anther sack on 3rddown.  Getting the ball back,Hendersonville would pick up 1 first down before time ran out on the 1stquarter.

HHS would not get much more as they would be forced to attempt a48 yard field goal that would be no good keeping the game tied at 7 apiece.  The Black & Gold defense would take thefield again and force another 3 and out; HHS would quickly return the punt beforeGallatin would go 3 and out again.  Aftera good punt return by Bryant, the COMMANDOShad the ball at the Wave 35 yard line. In 2 plays, #20 David Priddy would get the go ahead TD with a 30 yard touchdownrun.  After Bowerman’s PAT, HHS would beup 14-7.  On Gallatin’s next offensiveplay, #45 Austin Lamb would get an interception for HHS and return it to the GHS45 yard line.  Hendersonville would pickup 1 first down before trying a 53 yard field goal.  HHS would miss the attempt, but a penaltywould give the COMMANDOS anotherchance, this time from 38 yards, however, the kick would be no good again andthe teams would go to the locker rooms with the score 14-7 in favor of HHS.

Hendersonville would get the ball to start the 2ndhalf, but the offense would go 3 and out. After the punt, the COMMANDOSwould force a 3 and out of their own helped with a sack by Dye.  On the Green Wave punt, #41 Alex Crider wouldget a block that #48 Colt Cupit would pick up and run to the 10 yard linesetting up a 1st and goal for Hendersonville.  3 plays later, Brown would score on a 1 yardrun to put the COMMANDOS up 2scores.  On the ensuing Gallatin possession,the COMMANDOS would appear to haveforced another 3 and out, but a defensive holding penalty would give the GreenWave a first down and spark a drive that go for 9 more plays.  GHS would drive the ball deep into COMMANDO territory before Davis wouldforce a fumble that #2 Ryan Patrick would recover at his own 5 yard line.  Hendersonville was able to get a littlebreathing room, picking up a first down before the end of the 3rdquarter.

A 49 yard run by #35 Believe Kabasu would get the ball into GreenWave territory, and the COMMANDOSlooked to go up by 3 scores before HHS would fumble on the goaline, andGallatin would get the ball at their own 1 yard line.  The Black & Gold defense would not allowGHS to get off their goaline forcing the Wave to punt from their own endzoneafter 3 plays.  After the punt, HHS wouldonly be 35 yards away from the endzone, and in 5 plays Priddy would score his 2ndTD of the night on a 5 yard run making the score 28-7.  Hendersonville would give the Green Wave backto back first downs on penalties, before forcing a turnover on downs.  After getting the ball back, the COMMANDOS were able to run the clockout to extend their season one more week.

 

The COMMANDOS (8-4) willreturn to Memorial Stadium next Friday night for a Quarterfinal playoff game asthey will play the Beech Buccaneers (8-4) who eliminated Station Camp 22-13 inthe 2nd Round.  Game time isset for 7:00 with the ‘COMMANDO WALK’ beingat 5:00.
