DEFEATED SOUNDLY
Friday, August 31, 2012

The COMMANDOS (1-2) traveled to Wilson Central (3-0) and were handed a sound 27 point loss.  Turnovers on offense, big plays on defense, and special teams’ breakdowns were all to blame for the district loss.

Hendersonville received the opening kickoff, and looked good to start.  After gaining 3 1st downs, back to back penalties would force the COMMANDOS to punt.  WCHS would waste no timegetting on the scoreboard as they would score on their first offensive play with a 71 yard TD pass.  After the PAT, HHS would be in an early 0-7 hole.  After a penalty on their next drive, HHS would throw an interception giving the Wildcats the ball in COMMANDO territory.  Wilson Central would go backwards 2 yards on their drive, but were still able to come away with points as they would connect on a 48 yard field goal to go up by 10 points.  #43 Justin Orr would bust the ensuing kickoff return into Wildcat territory, but a penalty would make the Hendersonville drive start at their own 34 yard line. HHS would then go 3 and out.  The COMMANDOS would have pass interference on a 3rd and 11 to let the Wildcat drive continue.  A WCHS QB sneak for a 1st down would be the last play of the 1st Quarter.

Early in the 2nd Quarter, a 65 yard pass for the Wildcats would set up a 1st and goal, but after a penalty by WCHS, they would be faced with 3rd and goal from the 20.  They would connect with a 20 yard TD pass on the 12th play of the drive.  The extra point would be no good to make the score 0-16.  Hendersonville would fumble on the 2nd play of the next drive to give Wilson Central the ball right back at the HHS 25 yard line. Another penalty by HHS after a tackle for loss would give the Wildcats a 1st down, but HHS would hold them to a field goal attempt that would be no good.  On the first play following the missed field goal, the COMMANDOS would get sacked leading to a 3 & out.  The punt snap would sail over the punters head for a safety.  Following the free kick after the safety, Wilson Central would start their drive at the HHS 36 yard line; they would drive to the 10 yard line before turning the ball over to HHS on downs.  Hendersonville would fumble on the 1st play for their 3rd turnover of the night giving the Wildcats the ball at the 11 yard line.  Wilson Central would score on a 6 yard run on the 2nd play following the turnover.  The COMMANDOS would drive down just before halftime and #24 Bryce DeGuira would get HHS on the board with a 40 yard field goal.  Wilson Central would take a knee to go the locker room with the score 3-25.

Getting the ball to start the second half, Wilson Central would convert on a 3rd down and then on a 4th down before being forced to punt for the first time in the game.  The COMMANDOS would go 3 & out, and then get their punt blocked giving Wilson Central the ball at the plus 22 yardline.  This would be the 5th Wildcat drive to start inside HHS territory. #23 Bailey Rogers would deny the Wildcats any points as he would come upwith an interception in the endzone.  The Wildcats would still be able to find the endzone however as they would intercept a COMMANDO pass on the next snap and return it 25 yards for the defensive score.  HHS would go 3 & out, and this time they would get the punt of; #39 Addison Hart would boom a 68 yard punt that would make WCHS start at their own 10 yard line.  After losing 7 yards on 2 plays, the Wildcats would attempt a quick kick on 3rd down, and #78 Brandon Bourk would block the kick for a safety.

Needing a score, the COMMANDOS would net 0 yards on 4 plays to give WCHS the ball back at the HHS 45 yard line.  Wilson Central would have another 1 play drive with a 45 yard TD pass. Hendersonville would drive the ball for 13 plays on the ensuing possession, but come away empty as they would fail to convert on a 4th down deep in Wildcat territory.  #57 Jacob Throneberry would recover a fumble for HHS, and 3 plays later #37 SamPate would score the only TD for HHS on the night with a 9 yard run.  It would only take Wilson Central 3 plays to run out the remainder of the clock and end the game.

Hendersonville (1-2) will be back at Memorial Stadium next week to take on Germantown (1-1).  The game will start at 7:00.

The JV (1-1) team is off on Monday, and the Freshman (3-0) will host Lebanon at 6:30 on Thursday night.
