TOUGH DEFEAT
Friday, September 28, 2012

The COMMANDOS suffer a tough 21-28 defeatin a district 9-AAA game at Shackle Island Stadium to rival Beech.  Hendersonville led throughout most of thefirst half against the top ranked 5A team in the state, but an 80 yard TD pass just before halftime would allow the Buccaneers to go into halftime with the score tied 14-14.  BHS would move the ball on the ground in the second have to hand HHS their 3rd loss of the season.

Hendersonville got the ball first at the 20 yard line after the opening kickoff went into the endzone.  HHS would get sacked on the 1st play of the drive.  After a block in the back call negated a 1st down run that would have moved the ball to midfield for the COMMANDOS, HHS would have to punt.  Beech would return the punt to the COMMANDO 45 yard line.  A penalty would help Beech get their first 1st down, and back to back penalties by HHS would lead to another first down on adrive that would go 45 yards (15 by penalty) for the first points of the night.  The Bucs would score on a 1 yard run.  The COMMANDOS would answer with a nice drive of their own as #3 Cameron Turner scored on a 15 yard run to tie the game. #81 Chad Dye would have a big catch on the 8 play 80 yard scoring drive, and #34 Corey Jones and Turner would have big runs as well.  On the ensuing drive, the defense would hold strong on 1st and 2nd down, and then #32 Drew Davis would get heavy pressure on the Beech QB as he passed the ball.  His pass would be intercepted by #23 BaileyRogers giving the COMMANDOS the ball at the Buc 44 yard line.

The COMMANDOS would convert two 4th downs en route to a touchdown that #27 Andrew Pate would score with a 17 yard run to give HHS a 14-7 lead.  BHS would hit a pass on the 1st play of their next offensive series, and then convert 2 3rd downs to move the ball past midfield before #11 Jackson Duke would end the drive with an interception. Hendersonville would get moving after the turnover as they would get the ball into scoring territory before fumbling the ball with less than 2 minutes left in the half.  It would only take Beech 1 play to make HHS pay for the turnover as they would score on an 80 yard pass to tie the game at 14. Hendersonville would only have time to run 2 more offensive plays before the teams went to the locker rooms tied at 14.

Beech would get the ball into scoring range on the 1st drive of the second half, but the Black & Gold defense would get a stop forcing a long field goal attempt that they would miss.  Hendersonville would have an 11 play drive following the missed field goal, but could only get the ball to midfield before being forced to punt.  HHS would stop the Bucs on their 1st 3 plays, but the Bucs would convert a 4th down on the last play ofthe 3rd Quarter to keep the drive going.

BHS would get a boost from the 4th down conversion and score 8 plays later with a 1 yard TD run.  Rogers would get a tackle after a bad snap to deny the PAT and make the score 14-20.  Hendersonville would only pick up 1 firstdown before being forced to punt.  Beech would take the ball after the punt and move to midfield after 6 plays before ripping off a 53 yard TD run.  A 2 point conversion would make the score 14-28. Duke would score the final TD of the night on the following drive with a 46 yard TD reception to cut the lead to 7 points.  A failed onside attempt would give Beech the ball back.  The COMMANDO defense would get a stop to give HHS one last chance, but a desperate pass attempt would be intercepted and Beech would kneel to end the game.

Hendersonville (4-3) will be back at Memorial Stadium next week to take on Gallatin (2-5).  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 on Paul Decker Field.

The JV (2-1) team will play on Monday at home versus Beech with a start time scheduled for 6:00.  The Freshman (7-0) team will try for a perfect season as they travel to the Waveyard to square off against the Green Wave in the season finale next Thursday night at 6:30.
