Gallatin ruins special night for the COMMANDOS.  Hendersonville painted a pink H in the middle of the field in honor of Lisa Bain (who was also an honorary captain for HHS & is wife of freshman head coach Chris Bain), and all who suffer from Breast Cancer by handing Hendersonville a 4 point loss at Memorial Stadium 20-24 in a district 9-AAA game.  With the loss, Hendersonville’s record fell to 4-4 while Gallatin improved to 3-5.  The COMMANDOS jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first half.  A 79 yard punt return for a TD by the Wave with 3 seconds left in the first half would give Gallatin the momentum going into halftime after HHS had played good through the 1st two quarters.  GHS would score on their first drive of the 2nd half to tie as they scored 24 unanswered points.  Hendersonville was unable to get any points until they finally scored with 2:24 left in the final quarter.  Gallatin would run the clock out after the COMMANDO kickoff to defeat HHS.

Hendersonville got the ball first and was forced to a 3 and out on the opening possession.  After a nice punt by #39 Addison Hart, the COMMANDOS would have the field position advantage. Gallatin would pick up one 1st down before HHS would force them to punt.  The punt would give Hendersonville the ball only 38 yards away from the endzone. The COMMANDOS would blow the opportunity to score as they would get as close as the 8 yard line before going backwards and missing a 26 yard field goal keeping the game scoreless.  Following the missed field goal, the Black & Gold defense would force GHS to a 3 & out.  Hendersonville would gain a couple of first downs on the next drive.

The start of the 2nd quarter would see #27 Andrew Pate gain a first down for HHS on a 3rd down play.  On the next play, quarterback #2 Jeremias Elston would connect with #11 Jackson Duke for a 35 yard TD.  The PAT would be no good making the score 6-0.  Gallatin would get a long run on their next series to move the ball into COMMANDO territory before the HHS defense would force a turnover on downs after 4 more plays.  Hendersonville would take the ball and go on an 11 play scoring drive that was sparked by a nice run by Elston, a 3rd down conversion on a reception by #34 Corey Jones, and a catch by #81 Chad Dye that put the ball inside the 5 yard line.  #21 Anthony Tate would ramble in from 1 yard out, and #27 Andrew Pate would add the two point conversion on a run to put HHS up 14-0 with 2:22 left before halftime.  The Wave would connect on a pass to get into HHS territory, but again the defense would step up and force a turnover on downs after 4 more plays to give HHS the ball back.  The COMMANDOS would run 3 plays before being forced to punt. The game would change on the punt as GHS would take the punt 79 yards tothe endzone to cut the COMMANDO lead in half with 3 seconds left before halftime.  Time would run out on the ensuing kickoff.

Riding the momentum from the punt return to end the 1st half, GHS would tie the game on the 1st drive of the 2nd half.  A QB scramble on 3rd down would spark the Green Wave, and then on the next 3rd down, Gallatin would score on a 63 yard pass.  After the PAT, the score would be 14-14.  Hendersonville would not respond going 3 & out on their next possession.  On Gallatin’s next series, a roughing the passer by HHS would get the ball inside the 20 yard line for the GreenWave.  HHS would hold GHS to a fieldgoal, but the points would give Gallatin the lead.

Hendersonville would go on a 10 play drive on their next possession, but it would only net 23 yards and end with a punt.  Following the punt, Gallatin would pick up a 1st down with a 3rd downpass to keep their drive going.  Three personal fouls on HHS would help the Green Wave get inside the 10 yard line, and Gallatin would eventually score on a 1 yard run.  Down by 10 points, the COMMANDOS would give the ball back to GHS at the COMMANDO 38 yard line on a fumble.  Hendersonville would force the Wave backward 5 yards on three plays to force a punt.  The COMMANDOS would answer on this drive as they moved the ball with a run by Elston, a catch by Duke, and a catch by #23 Bailey Rogers that set up a 1st and goal at the 4 yard line.  HHS would score as #3 CameronTurner scored on a 2 yard run.  The PAT would be no good again leaving the score 20-24 with 2:24 seconds left in the game.  Gallatin would pick up 2 first downs before Hendersonville forced a punt with about 1 minute remaining in the contest.  Hendersonville would look to have a shot to win, but a roughing the punter penalty would give Gallatin a first down allowing them to kneel on the ball and run out the clock.

Hendersonville (4-4) will be off next week, and will return to action on October 19 as they take on Mt. Juliet at Memorial Stadium.

The JV (2-1) team will play on Monday at Gallatin with a start time scheduled for 6:00.  The Freshman finished their season with a perfect 8-0 record.  They will play in a bowl game on October 23 (Tuesday).  Time and opponent TBA.
