SWEET HOMECOMING
Friday, September 12, 2014

HHS improved to 4-0 after putting up 54 points on Brentwood in Memorial Stadium.  The 54-33 win for the COMMANDOS was their 3rd straight Homecoming victory.  After jumping out to a 19-0 lead in the first quarter, Hendersonville would play inconsistent throughout the rest of the night, but made enough plays to get the 21 point win.  #20 Terrell Carter became the first player of the 2014 season to rush for over 100 yards in a game while #10 Jack Towe scored 3 touchdowns.

Brentwood received the opening kickoff, and after 2 snaps, the Bruins would face a 3rd and long.  BHS would convert with a pass, but after 3 more plays, Hendersonville would force a punt.  After the punt, HHS would have the ball at the Bruin 45 yard line.  In the COMMANDOS opening offensive series, #3 Cameron Turner would rip off a 42 yard run for the first score of the night.  HHS would miss the PAT making the score 6-0.  After the kickoff, the COMMANDOS would force a 3 and out.  This Bruin punt would be partially blocked by #49 Drew Dillehay, setting HHS in plus territory for the second straight possession.  HHS would drive all 40 yards to the endzone.  Towe would cross the goaline for his first score of the night with a 3 yard run after he and Carter had good runs to set up 1st & goal.  The COMMANDOS would fail to convert a 2 point conversion leaving the score 12-0.  On Brentwood next possession, a good hit by Carter would break up a pass on first down, and #2 Jeremias Elston would break up a 3rd down pass attempt to force another BHS punt.  On this COMMANDO possession, Elston would connect with #19 Braden Schwerdt for a 1st down pass and catch.  #6 Jarcques Wordlaw would have a nice run before Turner would have a hard run to get another 1st & goal.  Four plays later, Towe would score his second touchdown with a 1 yard run; after #24 Bryce DeGuira connected on the PAT, the score would be 19-0.  After a sack by #72 Chris Kacprowski on the following Bruin series, a 1st down pass would get a drive going for BHS.  The Bruins would pick up a couple of more 1st downs as they moved to around midfield with a COMMANDO pass interference and another pass completion.  #8 Drew Richard would end Brentwood’s promising drive as he would come up with an interception that gave HHS the ball at their own 2 yard line.  After not getting much on 1st down, Hendersonville would recover their own fumble on 2nd down setting up 3rd & long.  This would lead to Brentwood’s first points of the night as they would intercept a COMMANDO pass and score to cut the lead to 19-7 near the end of the 1st quarter.

Hendersonville would respond with a nice 80 yard TD drive that went into the 2nd quarter.  Runs by #36 Jon Reed, Carter, and Towe would move the ball down the field.  Reed would score the rushing TD with a 14 yard run.  Brentwood would have a good return on the kickoff to set up their next series with good field position, the Bruins would convert a 3rd down and then have a big pass play to set up 1st & goal.  The COMMANDOS were unable to keep the Bruins off the scoreboard, but did keep them out of the endzone as HHS forced BHS to settle for a 24 yard field goal.  HHS could not get a drive going on the next possession as they were forced to punt.  Brentwood would get the ball moving again on the COMMANDO defense, and after picking up three 1st downs, the Bruins would be inside the 20 yard line.  Hendersonville would once again play sound and hold BHS to a field goal; this one would be good from 34 yards.  On the ensuing possession, Elston would get the COMMANDOS moving with a 1st down run on the 1st play of the drive.  He would then find Schwerdt who would make a great catch to move the ball into Bruin territory.  A 1st down run by Turner followed by a first down catch by Towe would set HHS up with a 1st & goal.  Towe would score again, this time with a 9 yard run to make the score 33-13.  With time winding down in the half, the Bruins would get moving on their possession, they would get a first down pass, and then a big pass play for them would set up 1st & goal.  There would only be enough time for one more snap before halftime, and Carter would defend a BHS pass attempt to the endzone sending the teams to the locker rooms with HHS leading by 20.

Hendersonville would waste no time getting points up in the third quarter as Carter, Reed, Turner, and Elston would move the ball down the field on the ground after HHS received the 2nd half kickoff.  Turner would score the touchdown with a 9 yard run to put the COMMANDOS up 40-13.  The Bruins would drive the ball to the HHS 37 yard line before facing a 4th down.  On the 4th down play, Elston would ensure an incompletion forcing the Bruins to turn the ball over to HHS.  A mishandled snap on 1st down for HHS would help lead to a 3 & out for the COMMANDOS, and the Bruins would have a nice return on DeGuira’s punt.  Turner would hustle and have a TD saving tackle as BHS would take over possession in the red zone.  After the COMMANDO defense held BHS to 0 yards on their first 2 plays, the Bruins would run around the left end all the way to the endzone for a score.  The 20 yard TD run would make the score 40-20.  Starting at their own 20 following the BHS kickoff, Hendersonville’s Carter would quickly get HHS into Bruin territory with a big run to start the drive.  Elston would score on the drive with a 10 yard run.  HHS would hold Brentwood to a 3 & out following the kickoff.

Hendersonville would return the ball to BHS as they were held to a 3 & out.  DeGuira’s punt would put BHS inside their own 5 yard line.  The Bruins would get a drive together on this offensive series, after picking up a 1st down by penalty, a sack by #37 Sam Pate & #55 Emmitt Richardson would push BHS back inside their own 10 yard line.  Pate would get heavy pressure on the Brentwood QB again as he almost scored a safety for HHS.  Brentwood would convert 4 3rd downs and then have a long pass play that set up 1st & goal.  HHS would allow no points on this drive as #48 Parker Hogue, #81 Jordan Amis, and #66 D’Vontay Banks would combine to get a sack on 4th down to give HHS the ball back.  Hendersonville would fumble on the 2nd play on their next possession, and 3 plays later, the Bruins would find the endzone with a 19 yard TD pass.  Hendersonville would answer as #31 Shane Watrous would  run 80 yards for a COMMANDO TD that made the score 54-27.  Two long passes on the Bruins next series would see them with the ball inside the 5 yard line and they would eventually score with a 2 yard run.  After receiving the kickoff, HHS was able to run out the clock.

The COMMANDOS will be at Memorial Stadium again next week.  The game will be the teams 2nd of the season to be broadcast live on MYTV 30 (Comcast Channel 14) as the Friday Night Rivals game of the week.  Hendersonville (4-0) will be hosting longtime rival Gallatin (1-2).  Kickoff will be just after 7:00.  The team will be doing the COMMANDO WALK again this week and that will be at 5:00.

The JV team will play on Monday at Memorial Stadium versus the Station Camp Bison; this game is set to begin at 5:30.  The Freshman (1-3) will travel to Gallatin this week as they will play at the WaveYard on Thursday night with kickoff at 6:30.
