COMMANDOS DEFEAT WAVE
Friday, September 19, 2014

Hendersonville rushed for over 500 yards in their 56-14 defeat of Gallatin.  Led by #3 Cameron Turner with 200 rushing yards and #20 Terrell Carter who added 135, the COMMANDOS would score touchdowns on 8 of their 10 possession as they improved to 5-0 with their 3rd district win of the season.  Gallatin would come to battle HHS as the game stayed close for most of the 1st half, but after being tied at 14 in the 2nd quarter, the COMMANDOS would score 42 unanswered points playing solid in all three phases of the game.

Gallatin received the opening kickoff and after getting into HHS territory quickly, they would find themselves facing a 4th and 1 situation.  #57 Jacob Throneberry would come up with a fumble recovery to end the GHS drive and give the COMMANDOS the ball for the first time of the night.  #2 Jeremias Elston competed first down passes to Carter & #10 Jack Towe before #36 Jon Reed scored the first touchdown of the night with a 41 yard run.  #24 Bryce DeGuira would convert the PAT to give HHS an early 7-0 lead.  Again the Green Wave would pick up a first down, but then a tackle for loss by #6 Jarcques Wordlaw and #19 Braden Schwerdt would set up a 3rd and long situation for GHS.  Elston would break up a pass attempt forcing Gallatin into a punting situation.  After the punt, a big run by Turner would get the COMMANDOS into GHS territory, but back to back incompletions for Hendersonville would force them to attempt a 44 yard field goal that would just miss wide right leaving the score at 7-0.  Following the missed field goal, the Green Wave would throw back to back 1st downs which got them inside the COMMANDO 20 yard line.  GHS would then tie the game as they scored with a 19 yard run.  After a nice run by Carter got the next offensive series for the COMMANDOS going, Reed would catch a pass from Elston for a first down, and a run by Towe would have Black & Gold close to the endzone again.  A TD run by Elston would be negated as the 1st quarter came to an end with the score knotted up at 7.

Carter would get the 2nd quarter started nicely for HHS as he scored with a 24 yard run on the first play of the quarter.  Gallatin would respond on the next series as they would have a big play on 3rd and long.  The 67 yard pass play would even things up again.  Towe’s return to midfield on the ensuing kickoff would be voided by a penalty, but the COMMANDOS would still be able to point more points on the board.  After a couple of good runs by Turner, Carter would score another touchdown with a 49 yard run to put the COMMANDOS up for good.  Big defensive plays by Towe and #72 Chris Kacprowski would force a Gallatin punt on their next possession, but after HHS would be penalized for running into the punter.  GHS would punt again and it would work to their favor as Hendersonville would turn the ball over on the attempted punt return giving Gallatin the ball back at midfield.  Hendersonville would get the Green Wave in a 3rd and long situation, and #93 Preston Brown would intercept a pass to give the COMMANDOS the ball back.  With the ball at the GHS 42 yard line, Elston would have a good run to get the ball inside the 5 yard line.  Towe would then score with a 4 yard run to put HHS up 28-14.  With time running out in the first half, Gallatin would move the ball into HHS territory, but the COMMANDO defense would step up and not allow any points.  On a 4th down attempt, #37 Sam Pate & #41 Chandler Gant would force the GHS quarterback to initially ground the football giving HHS the ball back with less than half a minute in the half.  A big run by Turner followed by a big run by Carter would get the ball to the 2 yard line.  Towe would punch it in for another HHS touchdown on the last play of the 1st half sending the teams to the locker rooms with the COMMANDOS up 35-14.

Carter would have a big run to start the 2nd half giving HHS the ball inside Green Wave territory.  Carter would then get the drive going along with Wordlaw who had a first down run; Reed would get a 1st down catch before Turner scored on a 5 yard run.  Gallatin would pick a first down on their next possession, but a great play by Wordlaw would allow Schwerdt to intercept a Green Wave pass giving HHS the ball back.  Turner would turn the interception into points for HHS as he would take the first play 79 yard for another HHS touchdown making the score 49-14.  Gallatin would be forced to punt on the next series after picking up 1 first down.  Runs by #21 Frankie Small and Towe would get the ball moving for HHS as the 3rd quarter came to a close.

On the first play of the 4th quarter, #17 Drew Ferguson competed a pass to #31 Shane Watrous for a 25 yard TD.  #38 Jacob Harris would hit the PAT for HHS making the score 56-14.  Gallatin would pick up another 1st down on their next series before #34 Christian Bozeman had a good 3rd down stop to force a punt.  HHS would not give the ball back to GHS as #25 Reggie Harris, Watrous, #7 Weston Schwerdt, #4 Mike Harris, and #43 Luke Carver would help the COMMANDOS move the ball down the field as HHS picked up four 1st downs to run out the clock and claim victory over the Green Wave.

The COMMANDOS will be on the road next Friday for the first time in two weeks.  Hendersonville (5-0) will travel to Tomahawk Stadium in Murfreesboro to face off against the Riverdale Warriors (4-1).  Kickoff will be at 7:00.

The JV team will plays again this Monday at the WaveYard.  HHS’s JV will take on Gallatin’s JV starting at 5:00.  The Freshman (2-3) will be on the road for the 2nd straight week as they travel to Beech to face off against the Buccaneers at Shackle Island Stadium with a kickoff at 6:30 on Thursday night.
