COMMANDOS OUTSCORE GOLDEN BEARS
Friday, October 10, 2014

In a game with over 1,000 yards of offense, Hendersonville would use 28 unanswered 2nd quarter points to beat Mt. Juliet 63-38.  Each team would score with an 80 yard TD run on their first offense snap, and #3 Cameron Turner would rush for 204 yards and 4 touchdowns for the COMMANDOS.  The win moves Hendersonville’s record to 7-1 on the season with two games left following a bye week.

On a wet night at Memorial Stadium, HHS would kickoff to begin the game.  #24 Bryce DeGuira’s kick would go into the endzone giving Mt. Juliet the ball at their own 20 yard line.  MJHS would waste no time finding the endzone as they would score on their first snap with an 80 yard TD run to get an early 7 point advantage.  After the Golden Bears kicker got a touchback, the COMMANDOS would answer with an 80 yard TD run of their own as Turner scored his first touchdown of the night on Hendersonville’s first play.  Mt. Juliet would get the ball moving on their next possession picking up a first down by pass then another on a COMMANDO penalty.  They would continue to move the ball with a couple of rushing first downs as they got into HHS territory.  #10 Jack Towe would end the Golden Bear drive as he would intercept a MJHS pass attempt to give the COMMANDOS the ball back with the score tied 7-7.  On the second play of this drive, #20 Terrell Carter would rip off a 62 yard run that set a 1st and goal for HHS.  Towe would score with a 3 yard run as Hendersonville capitalized off the turnover.  Mt. Juliet would respond with a score to tie the game again as they would get a big pass play before scoring with a run.  HHS would make the mistake on their next drive; after #2 Jeremias Elston converted a 3rd down, the COMMANDOS would fumble the ball.  Starting at the Hendersonville 36 yard line, MJHS would connect with a pass on their first snap before the Black & Gold defense would step up and hold the Golden Bears to a 26 yard field goal that made the score 14-17.  #6 Jarcques Wordlaw would pick up a 1st down for HHS as the first quarter came to an end.

Towe would have a big run on the first play of the 2nd quarter to move the ball inside the MJHS 20 yard line.  After Elston converted a 4th down with a run, Towe would score with another 3 yard run to give Hendersonville a lead that they would not give up.  On the ensuing Golden Bear possession, #72 Chris Kacprowski would get a sack to help force a punt.  The Golden Bears would attempt to fake the punt, but #19 Braden Schwerdt would deny MJHS the first down giving HHS the ball at the Golden Bear 25 yard line.  On the first snap of this series for Hendersonville, Braden Schwerdt would score on a pass from Elston putting HHS up 28-17.  The COMMANDO defense would force a 3 & out on the next possession.  Towe would help HHS move the ball following the punt with a reception for first down followed by a run that gave Hendersonville a 1 & goal.  Elston would score with a 2 yard run.  HHS would force the Golden Bears to another 3 & out, and then Turner would score again on the first snap of the series with a 40 yard run to put Hendersonville up 42-17.  Mt. Juliet would get the ball moving on their next series as time was winding down in the 1st half.  Their drive would come up empty however, as they missed a 42 yard field goal on the last play of the 2nd quarter.

Hendersonville would get the ball to start the 2nd half, and on the 3rd play, Turner would run 72 yards for his 3rd score of the night to put HHS up 49-17.  The Golden Bears would also score on their first possession of the 2nd half with a 52 yard pass.  HHS would go 3 & out following the MJHS score.  Kacprowski would get a tackle for loss on the next Mt. Juliet offensive series, but a big pass play on 3rd down would keep the drive going.  Braden Schwerdt would break up a 4th down attempt to end the MJHS drive, but Hendersonville would again go 3 & out on offense.  A 17 yard TD pass would cap off an 8 play 70 yard drive for Mt. Juliet following the punt to make the score 49-31 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

On the first 4th quarter possession for HHS, Carter would pick up a 1st down with a hard run, but after 3 more plays, Hendersonville would have to punt for the 3rd consecutive time.  On the first play of Mt. Juliet’s possession, #57 Jacob Throneberry would force a fumble that #7 Weston Schwerdt recovered.  Penalties would back Hendersonville up, but after Braden Schwerdt caught a pass getting HHS to the 6 yard line, Turner would score his 4th TD with a 6 yard run.  Braden Schwerdt would come up big again on the ensuing Mt. Juliet series coming up with an interception on their 1st snap to set Hendersonville up deep in Golden Bear territory for the 2nd straight time.  #21 Frankie Small would find the endzone this time with a 3 yard run to put the COMMANDOS up 63-31.  Mt. Juliet would score one more time as they moved the ball with a big run followed by a 30 yard TD pass.  Following a failed onside kick attempt by MJHS, Hendersonville was able to kneel the ball to run the clock out and claim a 63-38 District 9-AAA victory.

Hendersonville (7-1) will be off next week, and will return to play on October 24 at Memorial Stadium.  HHS will host Beech (4-4) in two weeks.  Beech will also be off next week.
