What Does Commando Football Mean To You: A community of brothers coming together to represent a program.

Clay had a great career for Hendersonville High School both on and off the field.  He had the versatility to play multiple positions on offense including quarterback, running back, and split end while playing safety and cornerback on defense.  He was also a three year starter on Special Teams.  In addition to hard work on the field, Clay was also consistently on the teams ‘Honor Roll’ for players that make all A’s and B’s while taking mostly honors and advanced placement level classes.  He ended his career on the field with 28 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 defensive touchdown, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.  He completed the only pass he attempt that went for 22 yards, and rushed the ball 7 times for 1 yard.  His leadership both on and off the field, commitment to the team, work ethic, and ability will be hard to replace for the COMMANDOS.

2016-Started several games at free safety on the defensive side of the ball while earning playing time in every game; he did a great job directing the defensive secondary when in the game.  He also started on Special Teams, and saw some action at running back on offense.  Recorded at least 1 tackle in 9 of the team’s 10 games with a career high of 5 tackles coming in the Hillsboro game.  Ended the season with 28 tackles, 2 interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, 4 pass break ups, and 1 forced fumble.  Grabbed an interception against Cane Ridge and another one that he returned 79 yards to the endzone against Hunters Lane.  His forced fumble came in the team’s 24-14 victory over Station Camp.  Broke up 2 passes against East Nashville and 1 versus Hillsboro and Glencliff.  Ran the ball once during the season for (-6) yards in the McGavock game.

2015-Started all season on Special Teams where he did a great job for the team.  Also saw some Friday night snaps at quarterback on offense and cornerback on defense as well as played in all of the JV games.  Ended the season with 3 rushing attempts that totaled 11 yards, was 1 for 1 passing for 22 yards, had 1 pass break up, 1 fumble recovery, and blocked one punt.  His blocked punt came in the Station Camp contest.  He ran the ball 1 time against Gallatin, Glencliff, and Hunters Lane.  His career long rush of 12 yards was against Hunters Lane when he also completed his pass as well as had his fumble recovery.  His pass break up came in the team’s 1st round playoff victory over Shelbyville.

2014-Played on the JV team while seeing limited game action on Friday nights for the District 9-AAA Champion COMMANDOS.  Ended the season with 3 rushing attempts for (-4) yards.  Ran the ball from his quarterback spot once against Hunters Lane that went for (-6) yards, and rushed twice versus Lebanon that was good for 2 total yards and included a season long carry of 6 yards.

2013-Did a great job playing in the defensive secondary for the Freshman team and helped them to a second straight undefeated season that included a Freedom Bowl victory against the previously undefeated Oakland Patriots.  He is a good listener and was very coachable which helped him on the field.  He wore jersey #14 for the Freshman team.
