What Does Commando Football Mean To You: Commando Football is a brotherhood; Making me a better man and future husband.

Gunnar had a solid 4 year career for the COMMANDOS; he had a spectacular Senior season leading the team to a State Championship Game appearance.  He was a critical member of the 2013 team in all 3 phases of the game, but especially on defense where he was the teams leading tackler from his Linebacker position as well as the defensive signal caller.  He was voted as a ‘Team Captain’ by his teammates following his Senior year.  He worked hard in practice everyday and forced his teammates to improve by the way he attacked practice.  Not only a leader on the field, Gunnar was a leader in the locker room and was an emotional leader always giving his teammates words of encouragement prior to games.  For his play in 2013, Gunnar was named to the ‘All-District’ team as well as being a 1st team ‘All-County’ performer at Linebacker.  Ended career with 115 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, 9 QB hurries, and 5 pass break ups.  He continued to make improvements day by day every year from his Freshman season through his Senior year.  Was a consistent blocker on offense and did a great job running the defense.  His presence on and off the field will be hard to replace.

2013-Was a team leader and started on both sides of the ball.  Played Linebacker on defense, and made the change from Guard to Tackle on the offensive line.  He made all of the defensive calls and did a great job of ensuring that everyone was on the same page on each defensive play while leading the team with 98 tackles.  Gunnar was also a valuable member on the Special Teams.  He was voted by his teammates as a ‘Team Captain’; in addition, he was named to the ‘All-District’ team for district 9-AAA and was a 1st team ‘All-County’ Linebacker.  Did a good job blocking on the offensive line and helped the team gain the most rushing yards in a season in school history as the team amassed 4,209 yards on the ground.  On top of that, the team also gained the most total yards in a season with 5,195 yards, and the most points in a season with 534.  Recorded at least 1 tackle in all 15 games and was the teams’ top tackler in 4 games.  Ended season with 98 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, 9 QB hurries, and 5 pass break ups.  Led team in tackles against Gallatin with a career high of 13; also was the teams top tackler against Mt. Juliet with 7, Station Camp (regular season) with 10, and Arlington with 5.  Made a tackle for loss against both Wilson Central and Portland, and recorded 2 tackles for loss in the teams 49-41 semifinal victory over White Station.  Sacks came against Brentwood, Riverdale, Arlington, and had a career high of 1.5 against Independence.  Had QB pressures against Wilson Central, Lebanon, Brentwood, Gallatin, Beech, Arlington, Independence, and White Station.  Had 1 pass break up in 5 different games.

2012-Rotated in on both sides of the ball and saw significant playing time at both Linebacker on defense as well as Guard on the offensive side.  Ended season with 14 tackles on the defensive side of the ball, and was a solid blocker on the offensive line.  Recorded tackles in 6 different games.  Had a season best of 4 tackles twice during the season, against Germantown and Beech.  Also made tackles in the Station Camp, Franklin, Gallatin, and Mt. Juliet games.  In addition to Friday nights, he played in JV games.

2011-Played on the JV team, and saw limited game action on Friday nights.  Possibly could have seen more playing time for the varsity had it not been for injury.  Ended season with 3 tackles from his Linebacker position on defense.  Had a season high 2 tackles against Lebanon, and grabbed another 1 versus Wilson Central.

2010-Gunnar started at Linebacker for the Freshman Team.  He led the team in tackles for the season.  Gunnar played some at Fullback as a Freshman and moved to Halfback towards the end of the season.  He also played on the punt team, punt block, and kick off team.
