What Does Commando Football Mean To You: A time to build character and wisdom.

Sam had a good four year career for the COMMANDOS playing tight end for his last two seasons on offense, and moving from linebacker to defensive end for his senior season on defense.  He was the team’s starting tight end during his junior and senior seasons; both of which were record breaking season for Hendersonville’s offense.  He earned honorable mention ‘All-County’ as a TE for his efforts during the 2014 season.  He was also a two year starter on Special Teams, and started several games at defensive end during 2014 helping the team to a District 9-AAA Championship.  He had a great attitude and was always ready to come to practice and have fun while he was working hard to get better.  In addition to doing a great job on the field, he was also a great student being a constant member of the teams honor roll while taking ‘honors’ level class in the school.  Ended career with 32 tackles, 2 sacks, 7 tackles for loss, 8 QB hurries, 4 pass knock downs, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery on defense.  On offense, he had 3 receptions for 22 yards with 1 touchdown, as well as rushing the ball 3 times, during his sophomore season when he played running back, where he had 22 yards and 1 TD.  His great attitude, work ethic, and versatility will be had to replace.

2014-Started for the second consecutive season at tight end.  He was additionally a crucial member of the Special Teams, and started several games on the defensive side of the ball at defensive end.  He played a critical role in the team being able to capture a District 9-AAA Championship.  At tight end, he helped the team rush for a regular season record 3,326 yards and added 2 receptions for 10 yards while catching 1 TD.  He was named honorable mention ‘All-County’ as a tight end.  His receptions were against Wilson Central and Riverdale.  His touchdown was a 10 yard reception and came in the team’s 45-7 victory at Wilson Central in the opening game of the season.  He recorded tackles in 10 of the teams 12 games.  His best game on defense was in the team’s 44-0 victory at Station Camp when he had a career high 5 tackles which included 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack.  He tied his career high of 5 stops against Beech.  Had tackles for lost yardage against Hunters Lane, Brentwood, Gallatin, Portland, Beech, and Station Camp.  His QB pressures came in the Lebanon, Brentwood, Gallatin, Portland, Beech, and Independence games.  Recorded sacks against Brentwood and Station Camp.  Had pass knock downs against Hunters Land, Lebanon, Brentwood, and Gallatin.

2013-Was the teams starting Tight End all season long, and played a critical role on Special Teams where he was also a starter.  He was a very important part of the team being able to make an appearance in the TSSAA class 6A State Championship Game.  Sam was also a reserve Linebacker.  He was a consistent blocker on offense and helped pave the way for the team to rush for the most yards in school history.  He added one reception that was good for a career long 12 yards against Portland.  Ended season with 4 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.  Had a season high 2 tackles against Hunters Lane, and added 1 against both Mt. Juliet and White Station.  His forced fumble came in the Hunters Lane game and he recovered a fumble against Beech.

2012-Played on the JV team, and saw limited game action on Friday nights.  Played Linebacker on defense, and switched during the season from Fullback to Tight End on offense.  Ended season with 4 tackles.  Had a season best 2 tackles against Germantown, and added 1 against both Portland and Beech.  Ran the ball 3 times for 22 yards and 1 touchdown, all of which was in the Wilson Central game.  Those 22 yards included a career long rush of 13 yards.

2011-Was one of the strongest and most physical players on the team.  Got injured in the season opener for the Freshman and had to miss the remainder of the season.  Started at both Tight End and Linebacker before the injury.  He was a very hard worker who came to practice every day to improve.  Wore jersey #32 for the freshman.
